🇱🇧 LEBANON: BORDER CLASHES, CABINET DEBATE & WASHINGTON TALKS

🎯 IDF Troops Wounded During Southern Lebanon Clash: Four IDF soldiers, including two officers, were wounded during an overnight close-quarters engagement with a Hezbollah terrorist in the Beit Yahoun area of southern Lebanon. One officer was moderately wounded, while another officer and two soldiers sustained light injuries. All were evacuated for medical treatment.

According to the IDF, the terrorist emerged from a building and threw a grenade at Israeli forces before being eliminated within minutes. The incident was followed by Israeli artillery fire and Israeli Air Force strikes against multiple Hezbollah positions.

Lebanese media also reported additional fighting around Beit Yahoun, including an explosive device targeting Israeli forces, subsequent artillery and airstrikes, flare deployments during a helicopter evacuation, and additional Israeli strikes in the Bent Jbeil District and Al-Nabatieh Al-Fouqa.

🛡️ Israeli Military Activity Continues: Lebanese reports stated that Israeli forces, supported by armored vehicles and bulldozers, advanced from Haddatha toward the outskirts of Haris in the Bint Jbeil district.

Local media reported Israeli troops established defensive positions inside a residence while conducting extensive combing operations under heavy drone and reconnaissance coverage. Volunteer emergency coordinators advised remaining residents to exercise caution.

🏛️ Israeli Leadership Defends Lebanon Policy: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz rejected cabinet criticism of operational restrictions during the ceasefire, emphasizing that Israeli forces continue responding to immediate threats and that the United States recognizes Israel's right to self-defense.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for ending the ceasefire framework following the attack and urged strikes against hundreds of targets. According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir replied to criticism by stating, "you wanted a ceasefire."

Ministers Orit Struk and Yitzhak Wasserlauf argued that restrictions beyond the Yellow Line allow Hezbollah to continue moving ammunition and leave Israeli troops exposed, while defense officials maintained soldiers are not being placed at unnecessary risk.

🤝 Washington Talks Remain Without Breakthrough: U.S.-mediated Israel-Lebanon negotiations continued into an additional day after failing to produce agreement on the wording of a proposed document.

According to Lebanese media, Lebanon favors an "intent declaration" while Israel insists on a formal "agreement." Secretary of State Marco Rubio is reportedly encouraging both sides toward a preliminary Declaration of Intent.

Negotiations remain complicated by historical disputes, Iranian involvement in ceasefire monitoring, disagreements over Israeli withdrawal timelines, Hezbollah disarmament, Lebanese military deployment, proposed pilot areas, and a draft security annex. Lebanese reports said the latest round ended without progress on Israeli withdrawal or operational freedom.
