Senator Rick Scott described the decision as giving diplomacy a chance but said he doubted negotiations would succeed. He argued that Iran would continue pursuing nuclear weapons unless its capabilities were destroyed and said the United States must remain prepared to use military force.
🔍 SEGAL SEES POTENTIAL STRATEGIC BENEFIT FOR ISRAEL: Israeli commentator Amit Segal assessed that Trump is balancing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with maintaining lower energy prices. He argued that Iran remains deprived of oil revenue while uncertainty over renewed American action discourages countries and companies from conducting business with Tehran.
Segal contrasted the current situation with earlier concerns that Washington might sign a weak agreement that quickly restored substantial Iranian revenue. He suggested Trump is deliberately buying time until the U.S. midterm elections and believes his internal polling is stronger than public surveys indicate.
📉 OIL PRICES FALL DESPITE CONTINUING SHIPPING DISRUPTIONS: Brent crude fell 5.1% to $83.44 per barrel, while U.S. crude declined 5.8% to $79.77 after Trump delayed further strikes. Both benchmarks had risen by more than 20% during the previous month amid renewed U.S.-Iran fighting, tanker attacks and reduced Gulf shipping.
Analysts warned that negotiations could collapse if Iran continues using the Strait of Hormuz as leverage or additional attacks occur. Three tanker attacks have been reported since Saturday, while two vessels carrying Saudi oil exited the Red Sea through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait over the weekend.
⚓ TANKER INCIDENTS CONTINUE NEAR OMAN: The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported an incident approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Khasab. Another vessel was reportedly targeted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with an anti-ship missile in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s IRNA news agency claimed the attack followed the tanker’s refusal to obey IRGC Navy instructions and its violation of Iran’s blockade. OPEC+ separately approved a September production increase of approximately 188,000 barrels per day, although export disruptions linked to the Iran and Ukraine wars have limited the effect of recent increases.
