🛡️ U.S. military pressure on Iran is widening across multiple fronts:
U.S. forces enforcing the blockade had redirected eight commercial vessels and disabled one as of July 21. American strikes also hit Larak Island and Bushehr, where an electricity substation near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant was damaged, causing localized outages. Iranian officials denied that Qeshm’s Bahman pier had been attacked, and no casualties were reported from explosions around Bushehr and Khormoj.
U.S. Air Force KC-135T Stratotankers departed bases in Romania, while British Prime Minister Andy Burnham approved continued U.S. use of British military bases for strikes against Iran, according to Bloomberg.
The U.S. Department of War confirmed that Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, previously listed as missing after Iran’s July 17 attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, was killed in action. Rampersad served with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, based in Germany.
President Trump attended the dignified transfer of four American soldiers killed in the Middle East and ordered CENTCOM to “open the gates of hell” against Iran. His warning was presented as indicating a possible role for B-2 bombers in the continuing campaign.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the conflict has cost the United States $37.5 billion. He acknowledged that eliminating every Iranian fast boat, armed vessel and cruise missile is impossible, while saying Russia and China are assisting Iran at different levels. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said China has not changed the course of the war.
🛰️ Iran’s fortified nuclear infrastructure remains central to U.S. planning:
Recent intelligence reportedly indicates that Iran transferred thousands of enrichment centrifuges, and possibly highly enriched uranium, into tunnels beneath Pickaxe Mountain. The deepest sections may extend more than 100 meters beneath solid rock, potentially placing them beyond the reliable reach of the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator.
Repeated conventional strikes could collapse entrances, ventilation systems, power supplies and access routes without destroying every chamber. Other reported options include additional bunker-buster attacks, sabotage or a ground operation.
Some analysts argue that destroying the deepest sections could require a nuclear earth-penetrating weapon, an option carrying severe radiological, military and geopolitical consequences without guaranteeing complete destruction or limited fallout.
Trump said the facility would be destroyed “very soon.” When asked whether the United States could reach it, Hegseth said American capabilities are classified but that the U.S. military can reach any target on Earth.
Axios reported that Trump is nearing a choice between accepting a Qatari-mediated ceasefire intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or launching a major coordinated U.S.-Israeli campaign to force Tehran’s capitulation.
Israeli preparations reportedly resemble those preceding Operation Epic Fury on February 28. Israel would participate only if directly attacked by Iran or formally requested to join by the United States.
