⚓ U.S. STRIKES AND BLOCKADE PRESSURE IRAN: President Trump said U.S. forces destroyed rebuilt Iranian radar, missile and mine-laying capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz and claimed the U.S. now “controls” the waterway. He separately said 28 Iranian “boats” or “ships” were taken out; CENTCOM has confirmed strikes on maritime assets and facilities, air defenses, radars, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites, but not the figure of 28 vessels.
The U.S. Navy continues enforcing the blockade against Iran. As of September 2, U.S. forces had redirected 86 commercial vessels, disabled three and boarded two to ensure compliance. Roughly 50,000 U.S. personnel and 19 warships remain in the region, while The Wall Street Journal reported that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth extended American deployments in the Middle East until 2027.
🏛️ TRUMP WEIGHS THE COURSE OF THE IRAN WAR: Trump rejected suggestions that the November 3 midterms are determining his Iran policy, saying, “I’m not affected by the election,” and that Republicans respect that the U.S. is “not allowing Iran to have a nuclear weapon.” His statement qualifies, but does not disprove, Reuters reporting that some senior aides are considering electoral implications when arguing for containment.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump has privately discussed declaring the Iran war over and currently favors doing so, believing sustained economic pressure could eventually force Tehran to dismantle its nuclear program or contribute to the regime’s collapse. No direct quotation from those private discussions was published.
Trump also declined to say whether Washington would arm Iranian opposition forces following his earlier call for Iranians to “rise up and fight,” saying it would be inappropriate to disclose. No U.S. program to arm an Iranian uprising has been announced.
🤝 UAE CONTACT FOLLOWS RENEWED IRANIAN ATTACKS: Trump spoke Thursday with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his first identified direct UAE-specific presidential contact following Iran’s renewed attacks. The Emirati readout said they discussed bilateral cooperation and regional developments but announced no new military commitment or retaliation policy.
Iranian Armed Forces separately said they had targeted American bases in the UAE and Kuwait with missiles and drones.
🛡️ ISRAEL WARNS IRAN AGAINST DIRECT ATTACK: Defense Minister Israel Katz said an Iranian attack on Israel would remove existing restrictions on Israeli strikes, warning that Israel would target Iranian national, military, civilian and energy infrastructure.
Katz said Iran’s economic pressure and fears of an uprising or regime collapse could push Tehran toward “desperate measures,” while stressing that Israel is prepared defensively and offensively. He also held a multi-front security assessment with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and other senior security officials.
