🇮🇷 Iran’s negotiating conditions and UN address: Iran’s Foreign Ministry said a two-hour exchange of messages with Washington, mediated by Qatar, conveyed Tehran’s conditions for reviving negotiations: stopping what it called America’s aggressive actions and sanctions, ending the war on all fronts, releasing frozen Iranian assets and accepting a navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz agreed upon with Oman. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran believes Democrats will win the elections and Trump will consequently be unable to act against it.
The U.S. delegation left the UN General Assembly as Iranian President Pezeshkian began his address. He argued that regional security must be shared, saying: “No one in this region will have security alone, either we will build it together or we will have to live under insecurity together”.
Pezeshkian accused Israel of savagely murdering more than 70,000 innocents in Gaza and contrasted Iran being bombed during negotiations and subjected to sanctions with the support Israel receives. He asserted that Israel possesses nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, remains outside the Non-Proliferation Treaty and has never allowed an inspection, while inspectors are demanded of Iran. He charged that Israel is rewarded with the means to bomb regional capitals at will.
The Washington Post reported that the Pentagon added another U.S. military death linked to the Iran war, bringing its publicly disclosed total to 19. The Army identified Capt. Bianca C. Wilkerson, 37, who died September 18 from a non-combat medical emergency while supporting operations in Doha, Qatar. The newspaper reported that U.S. officials put military deaths in the region since the conflict began at at least 22–23, including fatalities missing from the Pentagon’s public database.
🗳️ Election disqualifications and Channel 13 poll: The Central Elections Committee disqualified Ra’am and the Joint List from running in the Knesset elections. Representatives from Bennett and Lapid’s alliance did not participate in either vote.
A Channel 13 News poll projected 22 seats for Yashar, 18 for Likud, 11 for Bennett, six for Smotrich and Feiglin, five for Winter, and four for Yoaz Hendel and Zelekha. Its stated bloc totals were 51 for the Netanyahu bloc, 52 for the opposition and 13 for Arab parties, with Hendel and Zelekha’s four seats listed separately.
