🇮🇱 Political tensions rise over Knesset dissolution and Haredi legislation: Prime Minister Netanyahu requested to cancel his testimony today, stating: “He was busy with diplomatic and security matters all night.”
In coalition talks, the bill to dissolve the Knesset is expected to be brought for a first reading this coming Monday. The proposed election date range in the bill is between September 8 and October 27.
Coalition Chair Ofir Katz stated that the Knesset Committee will hold a discussion and vote on the bill Monday before bringing it to the plenum the same day.
United Torah Judaism threatened Netanyahu and considered supporting a law establishing a state commission of inquiry, partly due to the crisis surrounding the daycare law.
A preliminary reading later passed for legislation intended to bypass the Supreme Court and subsidize daycare centers for Haredim. MK Iluz from Likud voted against the bill, contrary to his party colleagues.
Following the vote, the Haredi parties are not expected to support the establishment of a state commission of inquiry today.
Shas chairman Aryeh Deri stated: "Your despicable vote against the daycare law proves how great your hatred is toward the ultra-Orthodox public — who could even imagine any kind of cooperation with you?"
⚠️ Draft exemption debate intensifies: Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett addressed what he described as “compromises” on the draft issue:
“Israel is at an existential moment. The State of Israel cannot survive when more and more of its citizens are being educated to ‘die and not enlist,’ do not serve in the IDF, and do not join the workforce. The working and serving public cannot continue to bear the economic and security burden alone. This is national suicide in slow motion, and I will not let it happen.
“I want everyone to be clear: In the next government under my leadership there will be no compromises on enlistment. There will be no political deals at the expense of those who serve in the army, and no one will get a 30-percent discount. In the next government, everyone—everyone—will enlist. Anyone who does not serve will not receive a single shekel from the state. It’s that simple. When it comes to the security of the state, there are no compromises.”
MK Gadi Eisenkot criticized Bennett and Yair Lapid, stating: "Populist and unserious remarks from those who held senior positions in the country and said that under them everyone would enlist – but they didn’t promote anything."
The IDF reported that 433 Haredim enlisted in designated programs over the past two months, including a record 272 combat soldiers.
