🛡️ Israel Advances Multi-Layered Air Defense: Israel's Ministry of Defense and Rafael completed an extensive series of tests of upgraded Iron Dome capabilities, incorporating operational lessons from the current war and recent operations against Iran. The upgrades were validated against rockets, cruise missiles, UAVs, and large-scale barrage scenarios to improve performance against evolving threats.
A key milestone was the successful integration of the Or Eitan (Iron Beam) high-power laser system into Iron Dome's command-and-control network, strengthening Israel's multi-layered air defense architecture. Officials said interceptor production is also being expanded in both Israel and the United States to improve long-term readiness. Defense and Rafael officials described the upgrades as a significant enhancement to protecting Israel's civilian home front while preserving the IDF's qualitative military advantage.
🌍 Romania Selects Rafael Air Defense System: Romania signed a framework agreement valued at approximately $2.3 billion with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to procure multiple SPYDER mobile air defense batteries.
The agreement includes launchers, interceptor missiles, radar systems, training, and logistical support, reflecting continued international demand for Israeli air defense technology.
⚖️ Defense Export Violations Lead to Criminal Charges: Israel's State Attorney's Office filed an indictment against Ability Computer & Software Industries Ltd. and two company executives following a joint investigation involving the Defense Ministry, Lahav 433, and the Israel Tax Authority.
The defendants are accused of illegally exporting approximately ₪35 million in defense-related products through violations of Israel's Defense Export Control Law. Additional charges include unlicensed defense marketing, tax offenses against one executive, and money laundering charges against the company.
🏗️ Defense Ministry Warns Budget Delays Threaten Military Modernization: Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram warned that prolonged budget disputes are creating a "dangerous delay" in implementing the IDF's approved ₪350 billion force buildup plan. He argued that procurement freezes and delayed modernization could become one of Israel's greatest long-term security risks after nearly three years of war.
Negotiations continue between the Defense and Finance ministries over the 2026 defense budget, with tens of billions of shekels reportedly still separating the two sides. While the Defense Ministry seeks increased funding to accelerate procurement and modernization, the Finance Ministry argues existing reserves can address many current needs without reopening the budget unless security conditions deteriorate significantly.
Baram also cautioned that Iran could rapidly rebuild its military if future international agreements provide substantial financial resources. He urged accelerating Israel's force buildup while strengthening regional security partnerships with the United States and additional regional partners. He noted that emergency measures have already expanded domestic defense production, increasing stockpiles of Arrow, David's Sling, and Iron Dome interceptors, while warning that bureaucratic delays are also slowing improvements to rehabilitation services for wounded IDF soldiers.
