⚓ U.S. reinstates naval blockade on Iran: President Trump announced that the United States will resume its naval blockade of Iran while keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping.
Trump declared: “The Hormuz Strait is OPEN, and will remain OPEN, with or without Iran.”
He said the renewed blockade would stop Iranian ships and customers from entering or leaving the country while permitting other nations continued access to the strait.
Trump stated: “We are reinstating the THE IRANIAN BLOCKADE, so named because it is only stopping Iran’s ships or customers from entering or leaving. All other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait.”
He added: “The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as ‘THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,’ but as such, and as a matter of FAIRNESS, will be reimbursed, at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped, for any and all costs necessary to do the job of providing safety and security to this very volatile section of the World. The process and formation will begin immediately.”
The administration said the blockade would begin Tuesday at 11:00 PM Israel time.
CENTCOM stated: “At the Commander in Chief’s direction, CENTCOM forces will resume blockading maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports on July 14 at 4 p.m. ET.”
CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins said: “We will begin implementing the naval blockade on Iran later today.”
🚧 All vessels entering Iranian waters could be intercepted: The UKMTO’s Joint Maritime Information Center issued an advisory stating that the U.S.-declared blockade of Iranian ports, anchorages, and territorial waters will take effect at 20:00 GMT on July 14.
The blockade will apply to vessels of all flags entering or departing Iranian ports and territorial waters. Ships may be challenged, intercepted, diverted, or detained by U.S. and coalition naval forces.
🔸 Proposed Hormuz fee not coordinated with Gulf allies: A senior Gulf source told Axios that Washington has not discussed the proposed 20% cargo fee with its regional allies.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi responded: “POTUS is absolutely right. Whoever provides secure and safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for this service. Iran has always been the guardian of the strait and will remain so forever. 20% is of course too much. We will be fair.”
⚠️ Iran rejects U.S. control of the strait: A high-ranking Iranian security official told Al Mayadeen: “The security and management of the Strait of Hormuz are determined by Iran’s will, not by Trump’s tweets or the presence of warships.”
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated: “This is the Persian Gulf, and Iran sets the terms in the Strait of Hormuz. To the Bay of Pigs failures: enough with the empty bluster, publish the real numbers on your human and financial losses.”
