🛰️ IRAN: UNDERGROUND ACTIVITY AND WEAPONS CAPABILITIES: Bloomberg reported that the IAEA detected new activity at the fortified Pickaxe Mountain site, also known as Mount Kolang Gaz La, but has no evidence establishing what is happening inside. Director General Rafael Grossi said inspectors lack access and rely on satellite imagery and other remote sensing.
Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported limited underground ballistic missile production using stockpiled components after U.S.-Israeli strikes damaged facilities and a naval blockade restricted fuel imports. Output remains far below prewar levels, but Iran retains a usable missile arsenal and is building additional underground facilities to protect production.
At the Western Wall ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Netanyahu endorsed what he described as Trump’s statement that Iran was again seeking nuclear weapons. He said Operations Rising Lion and Lion’s Roar had destroyed Iran’s immediate ability to produce nuclear bombs and pledged that Iran would not obtain nuclear weapons while he remained prime minister. He also linked operations in Gaza and Lebanon to action against the Iranian axis, citing the Beaufort and Ali Taher ridges and saying more would follow.
🛡️ ISRAEL: HOLIDAY READINESS AND WARNING TO IRAN: Channel 13 reported that Israeli security assessments explicitly raised the possibility of an Iranian offensive. Officials said readiness would increase during the holiday period. The IDF said it was prepared for a range of scenarios, including simultaneous threats across multiple fronts.
Katz, who has repeatedly warned that Iran could act against Israel, said any attack, regardless of reason or origin, would bring a powerful response against Iran, including key energy facilities. He warned that such a war would set Iran back decades.
⚓ U.S.–IRAN: MARITIME ATTACKS AND BASE DAMAGE REPORTS: U.S. Central Command forces reportedly destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers on September 8 after the IRGC targeted a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over two days. The ship reportedly evaded both attacks, suffered no personnel injuries and continued patrols in territorial waters; the account did not identify whose waters.
The IRGC Navy separately said it targeted a U.S.-operated Saildrone surveillance and reconnaissance vessel near the Strait of Hormuz entrance.
According to The Epoch Times, acting U.S. Navy Secretary Hung Cao confirmed extensive Iranian damage to Naval Support Activity Bahrain, home of the Fifth Fleet, in strikes beginning February 28. Damage to headquarters, barracks and other infrastructure was estimated above $400 million. The report said the base was unlikely to be usable soon, with operations continuing from ships and Diego Garcia.
Separately, Trump denied reports that Iranian missiles damaged U.S. military aircraft at a base in Jordan: “None whatsoever. No damage. No nothing.”
