🕵️ IRAN ESPIONAGE CASE, U.S. AIRCRAFT AND LEBANON TALKS

🕵️ IDF SOLDIER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR IRAN-LINKED ESPIONAGE: An IDF conscript was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of contact with a foreign agent and transferring information that could benefit the enemy.

According to the IDF, the soldier received Telegram messages in 2025 from several individuals, some identified as linked to Iran, offering paid assignments. One Iranian handler offered him money for photography tasks.

The soldier sent two videos of David’s Sling missile interceptions that he had filmed from civilian locations during the June 2025 war with Iran and received payment for one of them.

He also forwarded several publicly available videos found online, including footage of a missile impact.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the Military Police, Israel Police and Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet).

The soldier later informed a member of his unit about the foreign-agent contact after feeling pressured. He was arrested by the Shin Bet the following day.

Military prosecutors requested a seven-year sentence and additional penalties, citing the severity of the conduct, the risks involved and the need for deterrence.

The military court noted that the soldier had not transferred military information or material obtained through his IDF position. It also considered that he had ended contact with the Iranian handler and reported the incident to his commanders.

The court imposed five years in prison, a suspended sentence, a NIS 1,000 fine and demotion to private, the IDF’s lowest rank.

The soldier’s identity and unit remain under a publication ban.

✈️ ISRAEL LIFTS RESTRICTIONS ON U.S. REFUELING AIRCRAFT: Israel lifted restrictions imposed by Transportation Minister Miri Regev on U.S. aerial refueling aircraft landing at Ben Gurion Airport after American officials lodged a formal protest.

Regev is reportedly seeking to relocate the 34 American aerial refueling aircraft from Ben Gurion Airport to Israeli Air Force bases and other military facilities, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority.

🔸 ISRAEL-LEBANON TALKS FOCUS ON PILOT ZONES: Israel and Lebanon concluded the second day of a sixth round of U.S.-brokered talks in Rome, the first negotiations since last month’s framework agreement.

The talks focused exclusively on pilot zones and the establishment of technical committees to implement the framework under U.S. supervision.

The proposed “model areas” are Zawtar al-Gharbiyah, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, al-Ghandouriyah, Burj Qalawiyah, Sarifa and Frun, according to Al Jadeed.

🔸 SIDES DISAGREE OVER OVERSIGHT AND PRIVATE-PROPERTY SEARCHES: Israel demanded an oversight committee excluding UNIFIL to monitor Hezbollah’s disarmament and the deployment of the Lebanese Army.

Lebanon responded that any verification involving private property would require Lebanese legal authorization. House searches were explicitly excluded from the discussions.

Implementation is targeted within one week and would cover an Israeli withdrawal and binding arrangements for civilian returns.

Verification of weapons-free status and Lebanese Army deployment would exclude direct Israeli oversight. Lebanon favors supervision by a third party, potentially United Nations forces, operating under Lebanese law.

A U.S. State Department summary of the outcomes remains pending.

❗️ IRAQI DOCUMENT REPORTEDLY LABELS HEZBOLLAH A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION: A circulating Iraqi Foreign Ministry document reportedly classifies Hezbollah as a “terrorist organization” following instructions from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
