🎯 Gaza operations and military safety: The IDF and Shin Bet announced that Saher Nidal Latfi Sakr was eliminated in an aerial strike in Nuseirat the day before their announcement, in an operation conducted with the Israel Police’s Gideonim Unit 33 of Lahav 433. According to the statement, Sakr infiltrated Israel during the October 7, 2023 massacre and drove the motorcycle used to abduct Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or from the Nova festival. Attack footage showed him taking Argamani into Gaza; police also released footage of the strike.
In a separate northern Gaza airstrike, the IDF said it eliminated Hamas military-wing commander Muhammad Hamad Muhammad Gabain during the week preceding its report. The military said he had been involved in holding Ziv Berman, Gali Berman, Eitan Mor, Liri Albag, Agam Berger, Matan Angrest, Omri Miran, Keith Siegel and Alon Ohel in captivity.
The IDF said both men had recently advanced attacks against its troops and Israeli civilians in systematic violation of the ceasefire, and that their elimination was intended to remove threats. It said Sakr was affiliated with “global jihadist organisations,” supplied Hamas with weapons during the war and cooperated with operatives from Hamas’ and Islamic Jihad’s military wings. Gabain also worked to restore Hamas’ capabilities, according to the military.
Footage from central Gaza shows a child transferring weapons into a civilian home. The IDF said a terrorist used the child to move the weapons and as a human shield to prevent a strike. Troops refrained from striking the terrorist after identifying the child. The military described this as systematic exploitation of children in violation of international law to facilitate attacks against troops near the Yellow Line and Israeli civilians.
Following the fatal FPV drone accident in northern Gaza, Ground Forces chief Maj. Gen. Nadav Lotan extended the small attack drone ban from its initial 48 hours until October 4 as a precaution. The “Atalef” drone crashed during takeoff at an army post on Thursday and exploded minutes later when operators picked it up, killing Master Sgt. (res.) Nadav Kali, 24, and Master Sgt. (res.) Ofek Moalem, 23. The military said troops would then be able to resume using the drones as required and report their use.
🛡️ Lebanon: Hezbollah launched an explosive drone overnight toward IDF soldiers in the Security Zone in southern Lebanon, causing no injuries. In response, the IDF struck Hezbollah targets in several areas, including sites used to launch explosive drones and anti-tank missiles toward troops, along with additional terrorist infrastructure.
⚓ Submarine force preparations: The Navy aims to bring INS Drakon, Israel’s sixth submarine and the final Dolphin-family vessel, into operational service within weeks of its arrival at Haifa, according to an IDF report published September 24. The IDF said Drakon is approximately 30% larger than other Dolphin submarines, introduces advanced capabilities and uses air-independent propulsion to remain submerged longer without outside air.
Integration into Flotilla 7 includes crew preparation and infrastructure adapted to the submarine’s dimensions and systems. Its arrival closes a program rooted in Israeli-German cooperation dating to the late 1980s. The Navy is moving toward the next-generation Dakar project, which the IDF said is being planned in Germany and is expected to serve for decades.
