🚨 SHABBAT EMERGENCY ALERT GUIDANCE FOR LONG-RANGE MISSILE THREATS TO ISRAEL


🪖 IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said there are no changes to the Home Front Command’s instructions for the Israeli public, despite ongoing tensions with Iran.

“Ahead of the Sabbath, I want to say to all citizens of Israel: the IDF is optimally prepared, both defensively and offensively. It is important to emphasize that there is no change to the Home Front Command’s instructions. We will ensure to update you if there is any change,” he said.

🛡️ Home Front Command status: Home Front Command instructions remain unchanged at this time as noted. In long-range missile scenarios originating from Yemen or Iran, missiles travel roughly 1,600–2,000 kilometers, and early alerts may be issued several minutes before impact, ahead of the standard red alert siren.

⏱️ Warning time differences: Unlike short-range rocket fire from Gaza or Lebanon, where red alerts typically provide about 15 seconds to 1.5 minutes to reach shelter, long-range missile threats involve earlier notification through alert systems before the usual siren. This creates a clear pikuach nefesh (life-saving) requirement to receive alerts on Shabbat.

📻 Shabbat-approved silent broadcasts: Radio and TV stations switch to silent broadcast mode on Shabbat, activating only for emergency alerts and official instructions, including guidance such as whether to remain indoors. If you do not have a radio or TV, these broadcasts can also be accessed via live streams on a phone or computer. It is strongly recommended to use both a silent radio or TV source and an alert app or website.

📺 Silent TV option: Channel 14 provides silent emergency broadcasts, with a live stream available and Android and iPhone apps. Ad blockers must be disabled for alerts to function properly. There is no officially designated silent English-language broadcast channel.

📱 Home Front Command app: Shabbat and Holiday Mode: The Home Front Command app includes a dedicated “Shabbat and Holiday Mode,” which should be activated before Shabbat. When enabled, the screen remains active so alerts and official instructions can be viewed without touching the device. This allows users to see alert zones, time to reach a protected space, and updated guidance according to location.

To activate: Open the Home Front Command app → Settings → Alert Modes → Turn on “Shabbat and Holiday Mode.”

🔋 Preparation guidance: Fully charge your phone before Shabbat and ensure all alert methods, including the Home Front Command app and silent broadcasts, are set up and tested in advance.

⚠️ Bottom line: Due to immediate risk to life, monitoring alerts on Shabbat is permitted and required. Prepare in advance and stay safe.
