🔸 U.S.-IRAN TALKS REMAIN UNDERWAY IN SWITZERLAND: Iranian media reported that the first round of quadrilateral talks in Bürgenstock concluded after approximately 80 minutes and was suspended for internal consultations. Iranian sources said no nuclear discussions took place during the initial round and that talks focused on ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
A member of the Iranian negotiating team told Iranian TV: "During today's negotiations, we discussed ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. We will not negotiate on other issues unless the war in Lebanon ends."
According to Axios, U.S. and Iranian officials, with mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, continue negotiations that are expected to extend overnight. Discussions have focused on Lebanon ceasefire enforcement, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, nuclear deal issues, and implementation of the memorandum of understanding. A U.S. diplomat said progress has been made, all sides are generally satisfied, and the talks are helping build trust. Senior-level meetings are expected to conclude Monday, with technical teams continuing negotiations afterward.
🔸 DISPUTES EMERGE OVER TRUMP'S COMMENTS: Tasnim reported that the Iranian delegation refused a planned handshake and joint photo opportunity with the U.S. delegation. Following President Trump's public warnings toward Iran, Tasnim also reported that the Iranian negotiating team walked out in protest, while Axios cited a diplomat who said the delegation had not left and that talks were still ongoing.
Iran formally protested Trump's remarks, arguing they violate Clause 1 of the agreement, which requires both sides to refrain from threats and hostile actions. Tehran views the remarks as a serious breach of the understanding and is considering its response.
Al Mayadeen reported that Iran is demanding an apology from President Trump, a retraction of his threats, and a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon as conditions for continuing negotiations. Pakistan and Qatar reportedly asked President Trump to post a "peace tweet."
