🇺🇸 President Trump announced that planned U.S. strikes and bombings against Iran scheduled were cancelled after discussions with Iranian leadership advanced toward what he described as an emerging framework agreement.
Trump said discussions and final points had been approved “in both concept and great detail” by the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others.
He said the naval blockade would remain in effect until the “Transaction is finalized,” and that the agreement could be completed within the next few days.
President Trump: “The agreement could be finalized within the next few days. The signing will happen soon. I won't be able to attend the signing of the agreement, but my deputy, JD Vance, will be present to sign it in Europe”.
Reporter: “Has Iran's Supreme Leader approved this deal?”
President Trump: “I understand the answer is yes”.
Reporter: “When this deal is signed, is the U.S. going to immediately lift the blockade?”
President Trump: “Yes, it's part of the deal”.
President Trump: “The strait is open. The strait has been open for a number of months already, but you just didn't know about it”.
Reporter: “What is your deadline to get from this to a final deal?”
President Trump: “I don't want to say a deadline because then you'll say I didn't meet the deadline. It is not going to matter much because it is going to get signed”.
Trump later stated: “We ended the war with Iran today”.
CNN aired a montage showing President Trump saying a deal with Iran was close, noting that he has made the claim 39 times since the war began.
🗣️ According to POLITICO, after President Trump threatened to strike Iran “very hard tonight,” the leaders of Pakistan, the UAE, and Qatar urgently contacted him and said a preliminary agreement with Tehran was within reach.
The report said those assurances convinced Trump to cancel the planned attack and continue pursuing negotiations.
The New York Times reported that President Trump spoke with Pakistani mediators shortly before calling off the strikes. According to a senior administration official, the mediators told Trump they had reached a deal with Iran.
Axios reported that four U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft departed for Europe on Thursday carrying equipment in preparation for a possible visit by Vice President JD Vance to a signing ceremony in Geneva in the coming days.
🇮🇱 Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office said President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu about the emerging memorandum of understanding with Iran to enter negotiations.
According to the statement, Israel is not a party to the memorandum of understanding. Netanyahu expressed appreciation for President Trump’s commitment that any final agreement would include removal of enriched material, dismantling of enrichment infrastructure, limitations on missile production, and an end to Iranian support for regional terrorist proxies.
Sources quoted by Yedioth Ahronoth said Netanyahu told Trump he understands the efforts to reach an agreement with Iran, but that “Israel must not be the victim of such a deal”.
