🚁 ATTACK HELICOPTER SQUADRON MOVES NORTH: The Israeli Air Force has completed the transfer of its “Magic Touch” Squadron 190 from Ramon Airbase to Ramat David Airbase after approximately 25 years in southern Israel. The squadron operates AH-64A Apache attack helicopters, known in the IAF as “Peten.”
The IDF says the relocation is part of lessons drawn from the October 7 failure and is intended to improve the availability of Israel’s attack helicopter force for border defense by distributing combat helicopter squadrons between northern and southern Israel.
⚔️ WARTIME OPERATIONS: During the war, Squadron 190 operated on several fronts, striking terrorist targets, eliminating terrorists and providing air support to maneuvering ground forces. As fighting expanded to additional arenas, the squadron also participated in air-defense missions, including intercepting UAVs launched toward Israel during Operations “Rising Lion” and “Lion’s Roar.”
🛡️ OCT. 7 LESSONS: IAF Commander Maj. Gen. Omer Tishler said the squadron made difficult decisions on October 7, employing firepower to defend communities, eliminating hundreds of terrorists, saving lives and operating alongside civilians and ground forces.
Tishler said the relocation forms part of the Air Force’s internal investigation and broader effort to implement lessons from the war and adapt to the developing operational reality.
Ramat David Airbase Commander Col. A. said the Air Force moved quickly to investigate the October 7 failure and concluded that the attack helicopter force has major importance for defending Israel’s borders and supporting ground forces.
Squadron Commander Lt. Col. A. said the unit is bringing its extensive operational experience and history north while maintaining the same values, fighting spirit and commitment to its mission.
