❗️ Fatal shooting near Neve Tzuf and capture of attacker: Netanel Shakron, a father of six from Alei Zahav, was killed in a shooting attack at a natural spring near Neve Tzuf, also known as Halamish, in the Binyamin area of Judea and Samaria. Police said Shakron, in his 30s, was inside his car when a Palestinian terrorist opened fire toward bathers. Magen David Adom reported evacuating him to Beilinson Hospital in serious condition; police later confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries.
According to the IDF’s preliminary investigation, the terrorist fired from a vehicle, then exited and fled on foot while armed. The Binyamin Regional Brigade’s combat tracker arrived shortly after the shooting and wounded him. Following a joint security pursuit involving troops, special forces, drones and Israeli Air Force aircraft, Duvdevan commandos captured the terrorist at a hospital in the Ramallah area. Troops also recovered the weapon used in the attack.
🛡️ Closures and reinforced operations around Yom Kippur: IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the scene, conducted a situational assessment and held an initial inquiry with Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, Judea and Samaria Division commander Brig. Gen. Kobi Heller, the police’s Judea and Samaria District commander, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) representatives and other commanders.
He ordered a closure, continued pursuit of anyone who assisted the terrorist, and the sealing and dismantling of the terrorist’s residence. “This was a severe terrorist attack, and I sent our condolences to the family of the victim,” Zamir said. He stressed that the mission remained unfinished and that investigations would seek to identify everyone who helped the attacker.
Zamir also said the IDF had reinforced frontline troops ahead of Yom Kippur, placed additional forces on standby and maintained heightened readiness across all sectors throughout the fast.
The IDF said it was imposing closures on several Palestinian villages around Ramallah and preparing extensive operations during Yom Kippur, including dozens of arrest raids targeting suspects, among them those believed involved in the attack. A brigade-level operation was planned in the terrorist’s village, along with a raid to map his home ahead of its planned demolition.
The military, police, Shin Bet and Civil Administration were also set to increase their presence in Israeli communities and along main routes. Following reinforcements, the IDF said its deployment in Judea and Samaria stood at the equivalent of 27 battalions, including special forces.
❌ Ben-Gvir demands attacker’s execution: National Security Minister and Otzma Yehudit chairman Itamar Ben-Gvir called for the terrorist’s execution under legislation he said his party had passed.
“This is the first case in which the death penalty law for terrorists can be put into practice,” he said, asserting that the death penalty was mandatory in this case. “Execute him now.”
These statements reflect Ben-Gvir’s characterization of the law and its applicability.
❌ Counterterror operations in northern Judea and Samaria: Duvdevan fighters arrested two terrorists today in Qabatiya, near Jenin, who were planning an imminent attack.
Separately, the IDF reported that troops eliminated a Palestinian assailant who allegedly attempted to ram soldiers at the site of the formerly evacuated community of Ganim. No soldiers were injured. The supplied reports did not establish a connection between that incident and the Neve Tzuf attack.
