⚠️ U.S. LAUNCHES “OPERATION ECONOMIC OUTCAST” AGAINST IRAN: U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a sweeping campaign aimed at severing Iran’s international economic connections.
“Today, we are launching a plan that will strangle Iran’s economy and regime. Tehran must decide whether it wants to be completely isolated.”
“Any country that trades with Iran will be isolated as well. Those who choose to side with us will benefit.”
Bessent said: “Today, at President Trump's direction, the United States Treasury has begun Operation Economic Outcast... Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.”
He added: “Today, the U.S. Treasury has begun Operation Economic Outcast, an unprecented campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran. We are launching an economic onslaught against Iran's financial connections around the globe. Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone. Beginning today, we will tighten the noose and block every potential source of revenue that funds the IRGC and the Iranian regime. We are enforcing a zero-leakage approach”.
Addressing members of the Iranian security establishment, Bessent said: “To the ordinary soldiers supporting this regime: as more and more of your paychecks stop or are supposedly just delayed, ask whether your commanders are leaving your country to triumph or to ruin, and recall that the Berlin Wall fell when ordinary soldiers decided not to shoot at their own people. And to those who enabled Tehran: do not discount the cost of testing Washington's resolve”.
On China, Bessent said: “We want to make clear here today that no one is above the reach of U.S. sanctions. That if they facilitate transactions and are part of the ecosystem that turns Iranian oil into money, into repression, they will be targeted”.
Reuters reports that the U.S. Treasury Department will expand the scope of sanctions on countries and entities that conduct business with Iran.
President Trump wrote: “Iran is completely collapsing!!!”
Bessent also said: “Trump is making phone calls to world leaders with specific requests to cease their interactions with the Iranian regime. It is now time for world leaders to make the decision between America and Iran. Any entity that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the U.S. dollar system”.
Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir has meanwhile arrived in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials. In Israel, the U.S. economic campaign against Iran is being received very positively.
🔸 U.S. REMOVES SYRIA FROM STATE SPONSOR OF TERRORISM DESIGNATION: The U.S. has removed Syria from its State Sponsor of Terrorism designation, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s OFAC.
In simple terms, Syria no longer carries that specific U.S. terrorism-related designation. The move removes the consequences specifically tied to that designation, but does not by itself mean that every separate U.S. restriction affecting Syria has necessarily ended.
⚓ HOUTHI STRIKE SETS TANKER ABLAZE NEAR SAUDI OIL TERMINAL: The Houthis struck a tanker near Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu oil terminal in the northern Red Sea, approximately 1,000 kilometers from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen. The vessel caught fire following the attack.
❗️ NETANYAHU SAYS IRAN TRIED TO ASSASSINATE ONE OF HIS SONS: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that “Iran tried to assassinate one of my sons”.
