πΊπΈ U.S. SENATE BACKS TRUMP ON IRAN AS STRAIT OF HORMUZ REMAINS MAJOR STICKING POINT
πΊπΈ U.S. SENATE BLOCKS EFFORT TO LIMIT TRUMP'S IRAN WAR POWERS: The U.S. Senate voted 50-47 to reject a procedural motion advancing Sen. Tim Kaine's War Powers Resolution, handing President Trump a significant political victory.
The resolution sought to require the administration to end U.S. military hostilities against Iran unless specifically authorized by Congress. Had it ultimately passed, President Trump would likely have vetoed it.
The outcome reversed the previous day's vote after Republican Sens. Rand Paul and Bill Cassidy switched positions following a reportedly heated closed-door meeting between President Trump and GOP senators.
President Trump later thanked the senators who changed their votes, writing that the result "puts Iran on notice."
The vote does not expand presidential authority. It preserves the current legal framework, allowing the administration to continue military operations under its existing interpretation of executive war powers.
The debate also highlights the longstanding constitutional dispute over the balance of authority between Congress and the president regarding the use of military force.
β TRUMP REJECTS STRAIT OF HORMUZ FEES: President Trump said Iran informed the United States that, despite "troublemaking Fake News reporting to the contrary," there are "NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND BEING SOUGHT OR RECEIVED BY IRAN ON SHIPS TRAVELING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ."
He warned: "If this is false information, negotiations would end, immediately!"
President Trump also said no money has been given to Iran or released from Iranian funds by the United States.
He said some Iranian money controlled by the U.S. would be used to purchase American corn, wheat, soybeans and other agricultural products for Iran, adding that "food is desperately needed in Iran."
Asked whether he would accept any final deal allowing shipping fees, President Trump said: "No. It would be unacceptable for me. It would be a game changer."
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf pushed back, saying: "America falsely claims our unfrozen assets will buy their agriculture. Interesting. The only crop we're harvesting is what you planted: decades of mistrust. It's organic, abundant, and homegrown. But apparently the US only exports GMO soybeans, broken promises and trash talks."
Ghalibaf also said the Strait will "never return to pre-war conditions." According to the source material, Iran and Oman formed a joint committee to manage it, and the Persian Gulf Strait Authority is already collecting.
The dispute places President Trump's red line against Iran's stated position over the same waterway.
