❌ FOREIGN NATIONAL TO BE INDICTED FOR ALLEGEDLY SPYING FOR IRAN: Israeli prosecutors submitted a declaration of intent to file a severe indictment against Behrouz Sobirgon, a Tajik citizen holding a Russian passport, following a joint investigation by the Defense Ministry's Malmab "Arzim" Major Crimes Unit, the Israel Police, and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet). Prosecutors also requested that he remain in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Investigators say Sobirgon was recruited through what initially appeared to be a legitimate job offer. Although he quickly realized he was communicating with an Iranian intelligence operative, he allegedly continued the relationship.
According to investigators, beginning in January 2026 and primarily during Operation Rising Lion, he allegedly documented and transmitted the locations of Iranian missile impact sites, provided the coordinates of the Azrieli Towers, photographed the Port of Haifa, attempted to photograph a sensitive security facility in northern Israel, and assisted Iranian operatives in recruiting additional individuals for similar espionage missions.
Israeli security authorities warned that hostile intelligence and terrorist organizations continue attempting to recruit people through social media and seemingly innocent job offers to carry out espionage and other security-related missions inside Israel. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious contacts or recruitment attempts, and authorities say they will continue aggressively pursuing those involved in such activity.
