🇮🇱 BEN-GVIR CONFRONTS NETANYAHU AS RIGHT-WING POLITICAL TENSIONS RISE: National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir sharply challenged Prime Minister Netanyahu over reported advanced merger negotiations between Bezalel Smotrich and Moshe Feiglin.
Ben-Gvir said: “Good week, Mr. Prime Minister, I was stunned by reports that Smotrich and Feiglin, with you acting as mediator, were conducting advanced negotiations on a merger, and that you and Smotrich issued a staged call for unity with me solely in order to ‘put pressure on Feiglin’ and lower his demands. It’s one thing to boycott events I attend and be embarrassed to be photographed with me, but was the impassioned call for unity also nothing more than a cynical ploy?! Mr. Prime Minister, it’s worth reminding you: my name is Itamar Ben-Gvir, not Benny Gantz.”
Political commentator Amit Segal said Ben-Gvir is escalating tensions. Segal also reported that Netanyahu did not know about or participate in the Smotrich-Feiglin talks and raised the question of whether Netanyahu's control over the bloc has begun to crack.
Separately, the Bennett-Eisenkot dispute turned to E1, with the argument that anyone who opposes a Palestinian state must support construction there.
Gilad Erdan and Benny Gantz also met and are expected to accelerate negotiations on a possible merger soon.
