🇮🇱 ISRAEL LAUNCHES NATIONAL EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM: Israel’s National Emergency Authority (RAHEL) launched a multi-year national earthquake preparedness program with about 200 representatives from government ministries, the defense establishment, Home Front Command, Israel Police, MDA, Fire and Rescue, local authorities, and national infrastructure bodies.
The initiative follows Defense Minister Israel Katz’s designation of 2026–2027 as critical preparedness years and his directive to RAHEL head Brig. Gen. (res.) Itzik Bar to formulate a coordinated national plan.
Officials define a destructive earthquake as one of Israel’s major national threats and stress that home-front readiness must address both wartime and major natural-hazard scenarios.
Multi-agency teams have begun identifying gaps, refining processes, and improving decision-making frameworks.
Itzik Bar said Israel cannot predict when an earthquake will occur but must prepare now, adding that lessons from recent security emergencies are directly applicable to large-scale natural-disaster response.
He said the program will guide measurable multi-year work to improve institutional readiness, inter-agency cooperation, and national resilience.
