๐ก๏ธ U.S.-IRAN TALKS OPEN IN SWITZERLAND AS TEHRAN LINKS HORMUZ TO LEBANON
๐ธ U.S.-IRAN TALKS BEGIN IN SWITZERLAND: American and Iranian delegations arrived in Switzerland for talks mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. Bilateral and trilateral preliminary meetings are underway at the Burgenstock resort ahead of the inaugural peace summit session, according to Al-Mayadeen.
The primary agenda item after the opening session is implementation of the initial clause concerning "ending the war," with specific focus on the Lebanese theater.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran is determined to advance implementation of the other sideโs commitments.
"Without the implementation of these provisions - and especially Article 1 (the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon) - it will not be possible to move to the stage of negotiations on the final agreement," he said.
Baghaei added that the U.S. failure to ensure a ceasefire in Lebanon would be a central issue at the meeting.
He said the one-day meeting would also include a joint afternoon session with Iran, the U.S., Qatar and Pakistan, as well as discussions on Iranian oil-sale waivers and the release of frozen Iranian assets.
CBS News, citing a diplomat attending the talks, reported that U.S. and Iranian delegations added an emergency session on the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, even though Israel, Hezbollah and the Lebanese government are not formal parties to the talks.
๐ RELATED ANALYSIS: Earlier today I published a Times of Israel article examining a growing concern among many Israelis that, following the new U.S.-Iran framework, strategic pressure may increasingly be shifting toward Israel and its allies.
Many of the developments discussed below-including Lebanon, the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, and Israeli freedom of action-touch directly on themes explored in that article.

๐ธ IRAN REJECTS ZERO ENRICHMENT: Iranโs president confirmed that Tehran will not accept zero uranium enrichment.
"Trump's positions have changed 180 degrees compared to the past. We will not give up the right to Enrich Uranium."
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said:
"It was agreed to reduce the enrichment level of Iran's nuclear stockpile. The US and Iran have reached a conclusion that diplomacy is the solution, though what lies ahead in the talks will be more difficult."
โ IRAN LINKS HORMUZ REOPENING TO LEBANON AND OIL SANCTIONS: Tasnim reported:
"The Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless Israel withdraws from Lebanon and sanctions on Iranian oil are lifted."
IRGC-affiliated Fars News reported that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and that the IRGC Navy will not issue vessel transit permits until further notice.
A source close to the Iranian negotiating team said the strait will remain closed unless Israel halts attacks in Lebanon, Lebanonโs territorial integrity is guaranteed, and the U.S. fulfills commitments on Iranian oil exports and frozen assets.
