⚠️ U.S.-IRAN TALKS ADVANCE AS LEBANON WITHDRAWAL DISCUSSIONS CONTINUE
🔸 U.S.-IRAN TALKS REPORT SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS: The Iranian delegation departed Switzerland after 18 hours of negotiations. Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati told Tasnim News Agency: "The negotiations were intense and difficult, but the result went according to the goals set by our delegation. Significant progress has been made regarding the release of Iran's assets."
A diplomat told CNN: "The implementation of the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington is back on track, and the Strait of Hormuz is open to navigation."
Vice President JD Vance said: "Yesterday was a very very good day. We made a lot of good progress. We did exactly what we wanted to do."
Vance added: "The Iranians have agreed to invite IAEA inspectors back into their country."
He also said: "The Iranians did threaten to walk out, or at least there were social media threats that they would walk out. They didn't walk out."
Vance continued: "We told the Iranians yesterday, 'When you guys engage in what us millennials might call trash talk, you can't expect Trump not to respond'. When they say things that aren't true, Trump is going to respond to it."
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: "Treasury has issued a temporary 60-day general license authorizing the production, delivery, and sale of Iranian oil".
🔸 IRANIAN LEADERSHIP SIGNALS SUPPORT FOR TALKS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi stated: "Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War. Oil and petrochem exports are waived, blockade lifted, some frozen assets released, and major reconstruction & development plan launched for Iran. 1st real test: Lebanon deconfliction cell".
Islamic Revolutionary Guards political deputy Yadollah Javani said Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei authorized negotiations with Washington "from a position of dignity" after Iran's desired conditions had been set. Javani said Iran continued fighting despite what he described as an early U.S. request for a ceasefire.
Not all voices in Iran support the talks. Kayhan editor Hossein Shariatmadari wrote that Iran's negotiating team should leave the negotiations to humiliate President Trump.
"The minimum response to Trump’s threats is to humiliate this characterless element and leave the negotiating table," he wrote.
Shariatmadari added that even if talks continue, Iran should not let Trump go without revenge for the blood of slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani.
🔸 LEBANON WITHDRAWAL DISCUSSIONS CONTINUE: Asked whether the United States wants Israel to withdraw forces from southern Lebanon, Vice President Vance said: "The Israelis have been very clear that they don't have territorial intentions in southern Lebanon. The reason they feel they have to be there is because they are worried about Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon. We believe we can get to a place where both Lebanon's territorial integrity and Israel's security are protected."
Vance added: "Israel and every other nation in the region has the right of self-defense."
He also stated: "This is not a deal that the U.S. is imposing on the region. This is a deal that the region has desperately asked the U.S. to put in place".
