🚢 US ENFORCES IRAN BLOCKADE AS TEHRAN THREATENS DIRECT ACTION AND WASHINGTON REVIEWS EUROPE FORCE POSTURE
🚢 US Naval Enforcement Against Iran Continues: U.S. Central Command said American forces disabled the Gambia-flagged M/V Lian Star in the Gulf of Oman after the vessel ignored more than 20 warnings while attempting to continue toward an Iranian port. According to CENTCOM, a U.S. aircraft struck the ship’s engine room with a Hellfire missile, preventing it from proceeding.
The United States said five commercial vessels have now been disabled and 116 redirected as part of the naval blockade enforcement operation tied to the ongoing ceasefire framework with Iran.
⚠️ Iran Warns Of Possible Military Response: Senior Iranian figures publicly warned that Tehran could respond directly if the blockade remains in place. Mohsen Rezaei, an advisor to Mojtaba Khamenei, accused Washington of undermining diplomacy and pursuing broader strategic objectives beyond negotiations.
Iranian state-linked reporting also quoted Revolutionary Guard leadership as saying Tehran would seek to “break the siege” through negotiations, and through direct action if diplomatic efforts fail.
♟️ Conflicting Signals Emerge Over Blockade Status: President Trump stated that Iran must permanently abandon nuclear weapons ambitions and called for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen fully to international shipping. He also said the naval blockade “will now be lifted” while describing coordination efforts involving Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding enriched nuclear material.
Despite those remarks, Iranian media reported that U.S. naval forces continued enforcing the blockade after the announcement, including warnings to vessels attempting to cross the maritime exclusion line. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said message exchanges with Washington were ongoing but that no final agreement had yet been reached.
🇺🇸 US Reportedly Reviewing Faster Europe Troop Drawdown: Reuters reported that Washington is considering accelerating the withdrawal of American troops from Europe and plans to present proposals to NATO allies next month. The review follows earlier plans to withdraw approximately 5,000 U.S. personnel from Germany over a six-to-twelve month period.
The reported discussions come amid growing disagreements between the Trump administration and several European governments over the Iran conflict. Germany currently hosts roughly 35,000 active-duty American personnel, the largest U.S. military presence in Europe. The proposed reductions would reportedly move force levels closer to pre-2022 deployments before reinforcements were added following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
🛰️ Britain Arrests Suspect Linked To Iranian Intelligence Activity: British authorities arrested Ioannis Aidinidis, a Greek national living in Munich, over allegations connected to assisting an Iranian-linked foreign intelligence operation.
According to British officials, the activity involved the targeting of a journalist associated with the opposition outlet Iran International in London.
🎯 IDF Conducts Additional Targeted Strikes In Gaza: The IDF said troops in southern Gaza eliminated three armed Hamas operatives who were approaching Israeli forces and posing an immediate threat. In a separate northern Gaza operation, another Hamas operative was targeted while reportedly preparing sniper attacks against Israeli soldiers.
The military stated all four operatives were struck due to direct and imminent threats to forces operating in the area.
