🔸 REGIONAL POWERS PRESS FOR DE-ESCALATION: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with U.S. President Trump on Saturday, expressed concern over plans for massive new strikes against Iran, and requested clarity regarding the planned operation. He urged Trump to de-escalate and refrain from launching the strikes.
Pakistan, Turkey, the UAE, and Qatar are also pressed the United States and Iran to de-escalate.
Qatari mediators held separate talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Omani officials in an effort to secure an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The talks reportedly made progress, although it remains unclear whether that will be sufficient to defuse the crisis.
⚠️ TRUMP CANCELS PLANNED ATTACK SUBJECT TO AN AGREEMENT: President Trump: “I agreed to cancel the attack on Iran after a preliminary agreement was reached on a framework for a deal. This agreement will include the immediate, full, and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to the nuclear threat from Iran. The State of Israel joins me in this commitment.”
President Trump said: “The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat. Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL. The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment.”
🔸 CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS OVER THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ: According to diplomats, Trump called off the strikes after Iran agreed in principle to an arrangement for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal formulated by Qatari and U.S. mediators reportedly received a positive response from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
N12 cautioned that previous reported agreements concerning the Strait have often been followed by renewed missile fire and bombing.
Iran denied that any agreement had been reached to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and described the published reports as false.
🛡️ U.S. PREPARES FOR LARGE-SCALE WAR; ISRAEL SETS CONDITIONS: A U.S. Department of War source told Fox News: “We are prepared for a large-scale war against Iran. President Trump has approved a number of lethal and dangerous attacks against the forces of the IRGC”.
Israel will not participate in an expected U.S. strike against Iran unless Israel is attacked, according to Israel Hayom.
❌ SUSPECT ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED SURVEILLANCE OF BRITISH AIR BASE: Cypriot police arrested Rashad Sultanov, a 44-year-old dual Azerbaijani-British citizen, on suspicion of spying on RAF Akrotiri Air Base in Cyprus and sharing information with the IRGC.
