🏛️ Tisha B’Av, the Ninth of Av, begins this evening and commemorates the destruction of both Holy Temples in Jerusalem: the First by the Babylonians and the Second by the Romans.
The day also carries the accumulated memory of exile, persecution and national tragedy. It is observed through fasting, mourning, prayer and the reading of Eichah, the Book of Lamentations.
🤝 Jewish tradition connects the destruction of the Second Beit HaMikdash with baseless hatred. Tisha B’Av therefore calls not only for remembrance, but also for unity, responsibility, goodness and greater care for one another.
🇮🇱 That message has particular significance following October 7. Israel and Jewish communities worldwide continue to face the consequences of war, loss, displacement, uncertainty and ongoing threats.
⚠️ Israel also stands at a consequential regional moment. The confrontation with Iran continues, its proxies threaten further escalation, and current diplomatic and military decisions may shape whether the region moves toward restraint or broader conflict.
🛡️ Tisha B’Av reminds us that national resilience depends on more than military strength. It also requires unity, mutual responsibility and a clear understanding of what Israel is defending.
