๐ฎ๐ฑ SUSPECT IN BEIT UMMAR ATTACK APPREHENDED AS DEFENSE MINISTRY WARNS REHABILITATION SYSTEM UNDER STRAIN
๐ก๏ธ FALSE SIREN IN NORTHERN ISRAEL: Sirens sounded in the communities of Avivim and Yir'on. The IDF later determined the alert was caused by a false identification.
๐ GAZA TUNNEL CAMPAIGN: Defense Minister Israel Katz said he was updated during a security assessment today that the IDF has demolished 83% of Hamas's tunnel network within the IDF-held portion of the Gaza Strip.
โ SUSPECT IN ATTEMPTED VEHICLE-RAMMING ATTACK APPREHENDED: Following the attempted vehicle-ramming attack near Beit Ummar, security forces launched searches and pursued the suspect.
Through interagency cooperation, personnel from the Ministry of Defense Crossings Authority and IDF soldiers apprehended the suspect near the Metzadot Yehuda crossing. The suspect was transferred to the security forces for further handling.
๐ฎ๐ฑ DEFENSE MINISTRY WARNS REHABILITATION SYSTEM UNDER GROWING STRAIN: Marking 1,000 days since the outbreak of the war, the Defense Ministry's Rehabilitation Department reported that approximately 26,200 wounded IDF and security personnel are currently receiving treatment.
About 65% are being treated for psychological injuries, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders. Approximately 17,000 patients are coping with psychological injuries, including 7,700 who also suffered physical wounds. Another 9,000 are being treated for physical injuries alone, including 97 amputees.
Nearly 62% of patients are reservists, 21% are active-duty conscripts, 10% serve in the Israel Police, and 7% are career personnel. Nearly half, 48%, are under the age of 30.
The ministry projects that the total number of wounded IDF and security personnel from all wars will surpass 90,000 during 2026, a more than 40% increase in just three years, and could reach 100,000 by 2028, including about 50,000 with psychological injuries.
The Defense Ministry said the unprecedented number of casualties requires immediate funding and implementation of the recommendations of the public expert committee chaired by Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef.
Defense Ministry Director General (Res.) Maj. Gen. Amir Baram warned that implementing the recommendations is "not optional" but a national obligation, cautioning that without action Israel's national rehabilitation system for wounded veterans could collapse under the growing burden.
Since the war began, the Rehabilitation Department has expanded to nearly 4,000 mental health professionals, tripled stabilization facilities, established nine rehabilitation farms, launched a mobile mental health crisis unit, and opened a dedicated rehabilitation nursing department for young patients. The ministry said these measures remain insufficient given the growing scale of casualties and called for a broader national rehabilitation effort.
