⚓ STRAIT OF HORMUZ REMAINS CENTRAL TO THE AGREEMENT: The memorandum reportedly requires Iran to conduct comprehensive de-mining operations throughout the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CNN, RAND analysts assess that Iran possesses basic sonar-sweeping capabilities but lacks the precision necessary to reliably locate specific naval mines. U.S. forces remain prepared to intervene using existing tracking data should Iranian efforts prove insufficient.
CNN also reported that U.S. intelligence continues to assess that Iran retains the ability to close the Strait of Hormuz whenever it chooses, with one assessment reportedly describing the waterway as "a weapon stronger than nuclear."
🛡️ MARITIME SECURITY CONCERNS CONTINUE: NBC reported that Iran has launched drones toward merchant vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz each night since the memorandum was digitally signed on Sunday.
According to a senior American official, the drones were launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and intercepted by U.S. forces before reaching their targets.
🚢 IRANIAN OIL EXPORTS RESUME: According to TankerTrackers, VLCC supertankers DIONA and HERO2 departed carrying a combined 3.8 million barrels of crude oil, marking the first reported maritime energy exports since the beginning of the two-month U.S. naval blockade.
A third NITC tanker, STREAM, is approaching the active blockade line after spending seven weeks idling within Pakistan's exclusive economic zone.
🤝 LEBANON CEASEFIRE FRAMEWORK TAKES SHAPE: Tehran, Washington, and their partners announced an immediate and final end to hostilities across all fronts. Bloomberg reported that the memorandum commits all parties to refrain from hostile actions and threats against one another.
Lebanese Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab stated that the interim memorandum mandates an immediate cessation of hostilities in Lebanon and incorporates the country into a wider regional stabilization framework.
A proposed multinational oversight committee consisting of the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iran would supervise border stabilization and verify a comprehensive Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.
Bou Saab said phased Hezbollah weapons handovers face operational difficulties because of concerns regarding potential Israeli military action after disarmament. He also linked expanded state authority to implementation of the Taif Constitution and future cabinet reforms, while identifying Speaker Nabih Berri as a key guarantor alongside the Washington negotiations.
He further stated that diplomatic normalization with Tehran is advancing and described Lebanon's earlier rejection of Iranian Ambassador Sheibani's credentials as a strategic mistake.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the memorandum with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and emphasized the need for Israeli military operations in Lebanon to cease.
