‼️ Israel And U.S. Maintain Pressure On Iran: Israel’s Defense Minister stated that Israel may again be required to act against Iran. Israeli officials told Axios that Israel is expected to raise its maximum alert level over the weekend ahead of a possible President Trump decision regarding renewed military action.
Officials also said the ongoing U.S. blockade is increasing pressure on Tehran and could potentially force concessions without direct military action. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate again rejected a Democratic proposal intended to prevent President Trump from attacking Iran.
🌐 Washington And Beijing Coordinate On Strait Stability: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington urged China to pressure Iran regarding developments in the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters reported Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the issue during an April phone call.
The White House later stated that President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed the Strait of Hormuz must remain open for global energy supplies. According to the statement, Xi opposed militarization of the waterway, supported continued energy flow stability, and agreed Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon.
Rubio later stated that China opposed both militarization of the strait and the creation of a tolling system. President Trump also said Xi offered assistance regarding Iran and pledged not to transfer military equipment to Tehran.
⛽ Iran Signals Conditional Access To The Strait: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for countries that are “not enemies,” while adding: “You just need to pay the tolls.”
Bloomberg reported that oil loading operations at Iran’s Kharg Island have remained halted for four consecutive days, with export activity reportedly stopping for the first time since the beginning of the war.
🚢 Maritime Seizures And Shipping Security Concerns Intensify: A South Korean official told Yonhap News Agency that Seoul believes Iran was responsible for the attack on a South Korean cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz. Diplomatic measures are expected following formal confirmation.
Additional reports stated that Iran’s IRGC seized control of a merchant vessel northeast of Fujairah in the UAE and is sailing it toward Iran. The IRGC Navy claimed that approximately 30 vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz “with Tehran’s approval” since the previous night.
BBC Verify also reported that Iranian forces seized the Honduras-flagged vessel Hui Chuan, described as a floating armoury used by maritime security firms. BBC said it could not independently verify the vessel’s cargo or intended destination.
🛡️ CENTCOM Claims Long-Term Damage To Iran’s Military Infrastructure: CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper stated that U.S. Central Command achieved its military objectives against Iran in less than 40 days. Cooper said 90% of Iran’s defense industrial base was destroyed and assessed that Iran would not be able to rebuild those capabilities for years.
According to Cooper and an official U.S. Army statement, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis have also been cut off from Iranian weapons supply and support following months of coordinated operations.
🤝 Saudi Arabia Explores Regional Security Framework: The Financial Times reported that Saudi Arabia is discussing a regional non-aggression framework involving Iran following the war.
According to the report, the discussions are part of broader efforts to establish a new Middle East security framework involving regional and international partners.
