📊 Pentagon casualty figures are now divided between two reporting categories. The Defense Casualty Analysis System lists 14 troops killed and 417 wounded under Operation Epic Fury, while a new “Overseas Operations” category covering incidents since July 7 lists four additional deaths and 207 wounded.
Together, the categories produce a total of 18 killed and 624 wounded. The Pentagon has not confirmed that all 207 personnel in the new category were wounded by Iranian attacks or during Iran-related operations.
The four additional fatalities include three Army soldiers killed following an Iranian attack in Jordan and one soldier killed in Iraq during the controlled detonation of a downed attack drone. The deaths were placed under the separate category rather than added to the official Operation Epic Fury count.
Twelve Democratic members of the Senate Armed Services Committee requested clarification from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following repeated fluctuations in the figures. Pentagon officials attributed earlier changes to temporary data disruptions but have not explained the full scope of the new category or why conflict-related casualties were separated.
⚓ The Strait of Hormuz remains closed as the pause in strikes affects energy markets. Global oil prices fell sharply after Washington halted its attacks and Tehran suspended retaliatory action to allow Omani-led diplomacy to proceed.
Brent crude declined by more than 5% and briefly fell below $90 per barrel, according to Al Arabiya English. The movement followed 13 consecutive days of U.S. strikes and reflected expectations that negotiations could address safe passage through the strait.
🇮🇱 Netanyahu departed for Washington with Iran at the center of the agenda. The prime minister said his eighth meeting with Trump since the president began his second term carried both privilege and responsibility during a complex period.
Netanyahu said Israel must act with determination and wisdom, and that his objectives were to safeguard Israeli security, strengthen the country’s future and expand the circle of peace.
He also said he would pay final respects to Lindsey Graham, whom he described as one of the State of Israel’s greatest friends.
🚢 Iran threatened consequences following the attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea. Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, warned that Ukraine would learn that Iran does not leave actions unanswered.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the consequences would be unpredictable and could affect several countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded that Iran and North Korea had already attacked Ukraine. He said Iran’s supply of drones to Russia since the early stages of the war constituted direct involvement in attacks against his country.
🛰️ The Shin Bet warned of Iranian interference in Israel’s elections. Israel Security Agency chief David Zini said Iran is attempting to influence the upcoming vote. The warning was issued exactly three months before the elections.
