❗️ BORDER POLICE OFFICER KILLED AFTER OPENING FIRE IN NETANYA: Border Police Sgt. David Hoyer Amrani, 20, was shot dead by security forces after opening fire during an incident in Netanya’s Kiryat Hasharon neighborhood. No other casualties were reported. Witness accounts indicated he moved among residential buildings for roughly 20 minutes while firing bursts into the air before police encountered him and an exchange of fire followed.
Hebrew media reported that Amrani had been suffering from combat-related trauma. However, the Defense Ministry Rehabilitation Department said he had not been treated by the department as suffering from PTSD and was not officially recognized as such. He had enlisted in the Border Police in August 2024, served in Hebron in Judea and Samaria, and transferred to another Border Police company approximately eight months ago.
The investigation remains in its early stages and, because police officers were involved in the fatal shooting, is expected to be transferred to the Department for Internal Police Investigations. Idan Kleiman, chairman of the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, said he understood that Amrani had previously requested a transfer from the Judea and Samaria sector, calling that a potential warning sign that “the system probably did not catch.”
🗳️ 51 DAYS TO ELECTION: CANDIDATE LISTS AND ALLIANCES COME INTO FOCUS: Bennett’s B’Yachad and Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu are due to unveil their candidate lists today.
For Bennett, a key issue is how Yesh Atid members will be allocated positions. They make up about 40% of the slate, and with current polling making every realistic position significant, placement could determine which candidates enter the Knesset.
Lieberman has brought dozens of people into Yisrael Beiteinu, substantially more than the party is projected to elect. Questions include where former Likud MK Dan Illouz will be placed and whether other incumbents will be pushed out of realistic positions in addition to Sharon Nir.
Political alliance decisions are also approaching. Bennett visited Chili Tropper at his home Friday ahead of Tropper’s decision on whether to run independently or join a major party. The reported implication is that the chances of Bennett and Gadi Eisenkot joining forces are now virtually zero.
Gantz and Yoaz Hendel are expected to run together, while Ayelet Shaked is due to decide today whether to join them. Tropper appears set to run as an independent party within a joint parliamentary faction, without an option to split from that faction.
At the Jerusalem Conference, Religious Zionism chairman Bezalel Smotrich called on Avichai Winter to join him, said the top spot had never been an obstacle and hinted that the two had spoken in recent days.
Otzma Yehudit chairman and minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said: “If Otzma Yehudit does not win 15 seats in the upcoming elections, Bibi will form a government with Eisenkot.”
