🗳️ LIKUD-BEN-GVIR UNITY FIGHT: Commentary accompanying the report noted the ideological and religious similarities between Smotrich and Ben-Gvir while criticizing both for conduct it described as embarrassing Israel abroad. Despite Netanyahu’s attempts to bring them together, Ben-Gvir remains opposed to renewing their political partnership. The commentary also raised a separate concern over what it described as the continued survival of incitement.
Likud responded with a sharply worded statement:
“In his decision to waste tens of thousands of right-wing votes and refuse to unite with Smotrich, Ben-Gvir has decided today to usher in a left-wing government led by Gadi Eisenkot, Liberman, Yair Golan, and the Arab parties.
What does Ben-Gvir want? A broad national government led by Prime Minister Netanyahu that will continue the historic momentum we have created in settlement in Judea and Samaria over the past four years, that saved Israel from nuclear annihilation by Iran, that eliminated Nasrallah, Khamenei, Deif, Sinwar, and others, that led Israel toward a strong, powerful, uncompromising right wing?
Or— Will Ben-Gvir, because of personal considerations, waste right-wing votes in order to usher in a left-wing government—just like in 1992, when we ended up with Oslo?
A government of Eisenkot-Liberman-Yair Golan and the Arab parties will evacuate your home, Itamar. It will establish a Palestinian state. It will capitulate to every international demand. It will weaken the IDF. It will shut down Channel 14. It will persecute right-wingers and take us back to the era of the Saison. It will destroy everything we have built.
Ben-Gvir, Put your personal ego aside. Show maturity and responsibility. Unite for the sake of the right—
for the sake of the Land of Israel.”
Amit Segal: “This doesn’t look like a campaign for unity to me, but rather a campaign to vote Likud instead of Ben Gvir.”
