🛡️ Lebanon: disarmament, forward defense and robotic capabilities: During a visit to the 91st Division, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said the Lebanese Armed Forces must “significantly improve their effectiveness on the ground” for Hezbollah’s disarmament to advance through a desired agreement with Lebanon’s government. He reaffirmed the objectives of removing Hezbollah’s presence south of the Litani River and disarming the organization, warning that the war was not over and that the IDF would not allow Hezbollah to rebuild its strength, capabilities or terrorist infrastructure.
Zamir described the division’s updated defensive concept as operating from forward positions and maintaining a presence deep inside enemy territory beyond the border to thwart threats and protect northern communities. After assessing operations and readiness with senior northern commanders, he approved the concept’s principles and ordered stronger preparedness and continued high alertness.
Following demonstrations by field intelligence, Yahalom and reserve troops, Zamir announced that a Robotics Branch would be inaugurated in the coming months to develop air, sea and land capabilities. He linked expanded use of manned and unmanned systems to wartime lessons, crediting systems used at Beaufort and the Ali al-Taher Ridge with improving effectiveness and saving troops’ lives. He pledged rapid development with the aim of making the IDF a global leader in the field.
The IDF released additional footage of dismantled underground routes beneath the Ali al-Taher Ridge, including footage from inside a tunnel, Yahalom dismantling operations, Egoz troops and a statement by Commando Brigade Commander Col. M. Separately, suspected drone-infiltration sirens sounded in Manara and Margaliot. An interceptor was launched at a suspicious target, initially assessed as most likely false; the incident remains under review. Rocket and missile alerts resulted from the interception attempts.
🪖 Military readiness, accountability and equipment: The IDF announced a surprise Technology and Logistics Directorate–Home Front Command inspection, scheduled to continue until midday, assessing readiness for unexpected operational scenarios across military branches and command levels through the General Staff. The notice included activation of alert procedures and reserves, increased movement of security forces, military medical personnel and vehicles, and an assurance that no security incident was involved. The IDF said it formed part of the 2026 training schedule. Separately, the Defense Ministry’s Crossings Authority scheduled a Kerem Shalom terminal exercise for September 18, from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with gunfire and explosions expected.
The Gaza Division’s intelligence officer before and during the October 7, 2023 massacre, Lt. Col. “Aleph,” has been formally dismissed after months of legal proceedings. Zamir announced his intended dismissal in November over the October 7 failures, but Aleph’s court challenge temporarily prevented the dismissal committee from convening. On June 30, the court rejected his claims and upheld the process. Following the committee’s review and recommendation, Personnel Directorate chief Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa ordered his release. Aleph may appeal to Zamir. His identity remains barred from publication following his High Court appeal against official media publication, despite circulating online for months.
An Israeli Air Force remotely piloted aircraft crashed into the sea off Palmachim Beach because of a technical malfunction, according to the IDF. Navy personnel recovered it, and the incident is under investigation. The military said there was no fear of information leaking. Accounts differ on whether the crash occurred on the day of the report or the preceding day.
