📰 AP: Netanyahu sought UAE denial of warning report: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to deny a report that he had warned Netanyahu before Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, AP reported, citing a person who claimed firsthand knowledge of their discussions. The request reportedly came during Netanyahu’s secret visit to Abu Dhabi on Sunday, September 27.
The source said the talks focused on a Haaretz investigation published earlier this month. It alleged that the Emirati leader spoke with Netanyahu around 10 days before the attack that triggered the war, warning that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was planning an “earthquake.” According to Haaretz, Netanyahu replied that Israel was prepared but did not relay the warning to senior security officials.
Netanyahu’s office previously denied the investigation’s claims. Netanyahu called the report an “absolute lie” and said he would sue the newspaper. The UAE said intelligence is shared through “professional bodies, not at the level of national leaders.”
The secret visit was first reported by Israel’s Channel 12. AP cited both the person describing Netanyahu’s request and a regional official briefed on the meeting, who spoke anonymously to discuss the visit. AP reported that Netanyahu flew privately from Ben Gurion Airport, spent about four hours in Abu Dhabi and returned to Israel that evening.
Channel 13 reported a different account of the duration and main focus. Senior Israeli officials familiar with the visit said the meeting lasted approximately six hours and focused primarily on Iran. Channel 13 also reported that the visit followed a series of recent discussions between the leaders and that the Prime Minister’s Office had not commented on the visit at the time of reporting.
