🛡️ LEBANESE POLITICAL DIVISIONS, IDF OPERATION, AND NETANYAHU ON ERDOĞAN
⚖️ Lebanese political divisions deepen: Israeli and Lebanese media describe growing political division following the agreement.
According to N12, sources warned of 72 hours of operational anxiety, including concerns over possible targeted assassinations, widespread protests, and Hezbollah attacks, though they assessed the situation is unlikely to escalate into full-scale civil war.
Israel Hayom reported that supporters view the agreement as a direct blow to Iran that Tehran is trying to dismantle. Opponents argued that its commitments largely mirror the historical Taif Agreement, while Hezbollah still maintains tens of thousands of personnel, a reported $2 billion 2025 budget, Revolutionary Guard officers, and allied militia assets.
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri reportedly described the agreement as "a seed for civil war," while indicating that the Amal Movement would not join renewed fighting.
President Joseph Aoun is reportedly using constitutional authority to separate Lebanese border issues from broader Tehran-Washington talks. He warned that disarming factions too quickly could trigger internal collapse.
Reports also questioned the Lebanese Army's ability to fully implement the agreement, citing its 95,000 troops, $1 billion budget, 40% Shiite composition, intelligence leaks to Hezbollah, and calls by domestic critics to replace Army Commander Rudolf Heikal following reported disarmament failures south of the Litani River.
Lebanon's Christian factions remain split. Nadim Gemayel and the anti-Iran Lebanese Forces welcomed what they described as the collapse of Tehran's narrative, while Samir Ja'ja hinted at armed counter-mobilization. Gibran Bassil of the pro-Hezbollah Free Patriotic Current warned of a "civil war trap," while sanctioned pro-Tehran politician Suleiman Franjieh has remained silent.
Gulf-backed Sunni leaders Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and lawmaker Fouad Makhzoumi are mobilizing a legislative bloc to enforce an initiative banning illegal weapons across Beirut, arguing that all clauses are already covered by the Taif Agreement and the 2024 ceasefire.
Druze leader Walid Jumblatt broke with his pro-disarmament public, according to the source, and aligned with the Iranian axis in condemning the framework over the absence of a temporary ceasefire or "Hudna."
🎯 IDF eliminates terrorist involved in fatal encounter: The IDF announced that it eliminated the Hezbollah terrorist involved in the encounter in which Captain David Hazutt fell overnight.
Golani Brigade forces encountered the terrorist after entering a suspicious structure near Deir Siryan in southern Lebanon. Captain Hazutt was killed and another soldier was lightly wounded.
Following extensive searches, the terrorist was located in a nearby structure and eliminated.
🇮🇱 Netanyahu responds to Erdoğan: Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed repeated remarks by Turkish President Erdoğan during today's cabinet meeting.
"Hardly a day goes by without Erdogan calling for the destruction of the State of Israel. We take these words very seriously, because if there is one thing we have learned from the history of our people, it is that when someone says they intend to destroy you, you should take them seriously. We take these statements seriously, and we will also bring them to the attention of our American friends. We are not ignoring them."
