⚓ SHIPPING SOURCES QUESTION THE IRAN-OMAN HORMUZ PLAN: Industry sources told Reuters that the proposed transit framework is largely unworkable. They said Iran is seeking fees equal to 5–7% of cargo value, while payment could violate U.S. sanctions and invalidate war-risk insurance, creating substantial legal and financial exposure for shipowners.
🛣️ ISRAEL ADVANCES A LAND CORRIDOR TO REDUCE DEPENDENCE ON MARITIME CHOKEPOINTS: Cohen said Israel is working toward a route linking Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait through Israel to the Mediterranean and Europe. 🏭 DEFENSE MINISTRY EXPANDS ISRAEL’S DEFENSE-TECH STRATEGY: Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram met CEOs of about 20 defense-tech and startup companies and said independence in critical weapons components is a central strategic objective alongside preserving Israel’s qualitative and technological edge. Ministry orders to defense-tech startups reached about NIS 1 billion in the first half of 2026, double the same period last year, while 322 defense-tech companies have worked with the ministry since the war began. The strategy includes developing new capabilities, expanding exports, strengthening partnerships with the U.S. and other countries, and supporting companies through investment, government financing and long-term contracts.
🇹🇷 CHIKLI WARNS OF EXPANDING TURKISH PRESENCE IN SYRIA: Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli said Turkey is establishing military bases deeper inside Syria, has warships at Tartus and bases near Palmyra, and is increasingly involved in Syrian educational programs. He also said Ankara seeks a military presence along the Israeli-Lebanese border. Separately, Chikli sharply criticized French President Emmanuel Macron, saying he had “stabbed us in the back and then twisted the knife.”

A merchant had hired him and he received a permit from the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) to transport goods. After authorities established his identity, Israeli troops arrested him Wednesday when he reached the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom Crossing. He was transferred to the Shin Bet for questioning.
