⚠️ ISRAEL STRIKES IN SYRIA AND LEBANON AS U.S.-IRAN DIPLOMACY SHIFTS TOWARD HORMUZ TALKS
💥 ISRAELI OPERATIONS IN LEBANON AND SOUTHERN SYRIA: Israel carried out overnight strikes in the al-Fawqa and al-Musallah districts of Nabatieh, as well as the town of Maifadoun in southern Lebanon.
In southern Syria, heavy Israeli artillery shelled the town of Abideen, reportedly causing local residents to flee. Israeli helicopters were later observed operating over the area, indicating a possible ground operation to arrest a target.
During the operation, IDF troops stationed in southern Syria came under fire. No Israeli injuries were reported.
Israeli forces returned fire with mortar rounds, and an Israeli Air Force helicopter struck an open area.
The incident followed an earlier IDF announcement that its forces had eliminated two people in southern Syria after they allegedly entered a security zone.
⚠️ SYRIA CONDEMNS ISRAELI INCURSIONS: The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli attacks, including what it described as incursions into Syrian territory in Quneitra and Daraa.
The ministry called the actions "violations of its sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement."
🛡️ MISSILES INTERCEPTED OVER NORTHERN JORDAN: According to Al-Arabiya, missiles were intercepted over northern Jordan. No additional details were immediately available.
🔸 U.S.-IRAN TALKS SHIFT FROM SWITZERLAND TO QATAR: Conflicting reports emerged regarding diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran following the recent exchange of attacks.
The Wall Street Journal reported that planned U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland were canceled, delaying negotiations on more contentious issues including Iran's nuclear program.
A U.S. official told The New York Times: "No talks have been cancelled despite the strikes, and the exchange of messages continues through channels to avoid escalation".
Axios, citing U.S. officials, reported: "We have decided to cease all combat activities with Iran."
According to Axios, Washington and Tehran agreed to halt military strikes and meet Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, to address tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.
"The U.S. and Iran have agreed to halt military strikes and will meet Tuesday in Doha Qatar to resolve tensions over the Strait of Hormuz according to U.S. officials."
"The talks, originally intended to focus on Iran's nuclear program, will instead center on ensuring safe commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz."
"Officials also plan to discuss implementing a direct military hotline between the U.S. and Iran to prevent future incidents."
⚓ QATARI CIVILIAN KILLED AFTER SHRAPNEL INJURIES: Qatar's Interior Ministry said a Qatari citizen was killed after sustaining shrapnel injuries "resulting from the military operations in the region."
An Arab resident was also injured. Their vessel went missing and was found early Sunday following a search operation by the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security.
The statement did not specify where the incident occurred or whether the shrapnel was linked to the recent Iranian drone attacks on U.S. military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.
📉 OIL PRICES CONTINUE TO FALL: Despite the recent exchange of fire between the U.S. and Iran and Israel not withdrawing from southern Lebanon, oil prices continue to fall and are now around $70 per barrel.
The signing of an agreement between Lebanon and Israel, the successful ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, and the fact that yesterday's strikes caused little known damage in the Middle East may be contributing factors.
Global oil prices have fallen back to around where they stood before the Iran war. The decline reflects not only a recovery in supply, but also emergency measures including strategic reserve releases, alternative export routes, and weakening global demand.
