๐ก๏ธ ISRAEL STRENGTHENS ITS EASTERN BORDER AS LEBANON IMPLEMENTATION TALKS CONTINUE
๐ก๏ธ ISRAEL STRENGTHENING THE EASTERN BORDER: Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram said Israel's eastern border has been identified as the country's greatest land-border security vulnerability and requires a comprehensive national effort extending beyond military defenses.
Speaking at the first forum of government ministry directors general on the eastern region, Baram said border security must be combined with investments in transportation, energy, communications, industry, agriculture, healthcare, education, and new communities.
The Ministry of Defense's Eastern Region Administration announced it has completed its establishment and presented plans to strengthen Israel's strategic hold along the eastern frontier.
Brig. Gen. (Res.) Mordechai Benita said approximately 40 new security-oriented communities, staffed by armed civilian residents, are currently being established from Tzemach Junction in the north to the Eilot region in the south.
Baram said that although Iran and its proxies have been significantly weakened during the war, the possibility of a future attack or infiltration from the east remains a growing threat. He stressed that while Israel is investing heavily in a multi-layered border defense system, long-term security will also require attracting tens of thousands of new residents to strengthen Israel's presence along the eastern frontier.
๐ฎ๐ฑ SHIN BET TO JOIN FIGHT AGAINST ARAB CRIME: Led by ministers May Golan and Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) will join efforts to combat Arab organized crime, with approximately โช500 million allocated for the initiative.
๐ฎ๐ฑ NATIONAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY BILL ADVANCES: The proposal to establish a national commission of inquiry into the Simchat Torah massacre on October 7 was approved in its first Knesset reading. Opposition parties boycotted the vote.
๐ธ LEBANON-ISRAEL IMPLEMENTATION TALKS: Lebanese media report that U.S. officials, led by CENTCOM representatives, are working with Israel to finalize a mechanism for the Lebanese Army to deploy in initial pilot zones around Frun, Ghandouriyeh, and Zawtar before July 11. Lebanese officials say the areas could later expand to additional southern towns.
According to the reports, the framework is intended to create conditions for direct negotiations under U.S. sponsorship while separating the Lebanese and Iranian tracks, increasing pressure on Iran to ensure Hezbollah's compliance.
โ ๏ธ WITHDRAWAL DISPUTE CONTINUES: Lebanese security sources claim there are no indications Israel is preparing to withdraw from areas covered by the reported June 26 framework agreement. They instead allege an increase in Israeli airstrikes, drone strikes, and destruction of property.
The sources argue Israeli claims that hundreds of Hezbollah operatives remain south of the Litani River are being used to justify delaying or avoiding a withdrawal.
Lebanese media also report that U.S. officials have assured Beirut that Israel is not planning a broader escalation unless attacked and that implementation of the framework remains under active American supervision.
โ ๏ธ REPORTED WARNINGS TO SOUTHERN VILLAGES: Lebanese media report that the IDF issued warnings to several Christian villages in the Marjeyoun district, including Ibl al-Saqi, Qlaiaa, Burj al-Muluk, and Deir Mimas, urging residents to prevent the return of "strangers" and warning that civilian safety could not be guaranteed if the instructions are ignored.
Lebanese security officials reportedly urged the government to treat the warnings seriously, claiming they could precede future military operations, particularly following local criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu's reported comments regarding Christian villages.
