🛡️ ISRAEL EXPANDS SECURITY ZONES IN GAZA, LEBANON AND SYRIA AS ICC PRESSURE, IRAN-RELATED SECURITY THREATS, AND DRAFT LAW CRISIS INTENSIFY
⚠️ ICC / INTERNATIONAL LEGAL PRESSURE: Reports indicated the ICC is considering an arrest warrant for Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Smotrich accused the Palestinian Authority of escalating confrontation and stated that he signed an order related to Khan al-Ahmar.
📍 ISRAELI SECURITY ZONES / TERRITORIAL CONTROL: The Financial Times reported that Israel has taken control of approximately 1,000 square kilometers across Gaza, southern Lebanon, and Syria since the October 7 attacks. Most of the territory is reportedly located in southern Lebanon as part of Israel’s stated security zone strategy against Hezbollah.
🚢 GAZA / HUMANITARIAN FLOTILLA: Israel’s Foreign Ministry stated that no humanitarian aid has so far been discovered aboard the intercepted flotilla. The ministry also released footage showing activists embracing after being transferred onto Israeli vessels.
🛰️ REGIONAL MILITARY COORDINATION / SAUDI ARABIA: Reuters reported that Pakistan deployed approximately 8,000 troops, fighter jets, drones, and Chinese-made HQ-9 air defense systems to Saudi Arabia under a previously undisclosed defense agreement. The arrangement reportedly allows expansion to as many as 80,000 troops if required.
Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry separately announced that Saudi air defenses intercepted three drones that entered Saudi airspace from Iraq on Sunday morning.
❌ U.S. / IRAN INTELLIGENCE CASE: The FBI announced a major reward for information regarding former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer Monica Witt, who is accused of defecting to Iran and transferring classified information.
Prosecutors allege Witt exposed American agent identities and operational codes while assisting Revolutionary Guard-linked cyber operations targeting Pentagon systems.
🗳️ ISRAELI POLITICS / DRAFT LAW CRISIS: Political tensions surrounding the Draft Law continued as a senior ultra-Orthodox official expressed optimism that the conscription bill could be discussed in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
Ultra-Orthodox parties nevertheless continue advancing a preliminary vote to dissolve the Knesset. Rabbi D. Lando’s household instructed Degel HaTorah lawmakers to support dissolving the Knesset on Wednesday and “not to be drawn into political games.”
The committee is also scheduled to discuss legislation extending compulsory military service.
🏛️ SMOTRICH ON ULTRA-ORTHODOX ENLISTMENT: Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated that any future legislation must include a declaration from ultra-Orthodox leadership supporting military enlistment for those not studying Torah.
Smotrich warned against efforts to bring down the current right-wing coalition, describing such a development as harmful to Israel’s security, settlement movement, and Jewish identity, and called on ultra-Orthodox coalition members to maintain political responsibility.
🗳️ SHAS / COALITION DEVELOPMENTS: Shas MK Moshe Arbel announced that he requested Shas Chairman Rabbi Aryeh Deri end his tenure in the 25th Knesset.
Arbel stated he does not intend to run on any other political list and said he will continue acting according to the values of the Shas movement outside parliament while working for the prosperity of Israel and the unity of the Israeli public.
🗳️ NETANYAHU UAE VISIT DISCLOSURE: Yedioth Ahronoth reported that political considerations influenced the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office decision to publicly disclose Netanyahu’s UAE visit despite Abu Dhabi’s request for secrecy.
According to the report, officials feared public attention would otherwise focus on former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s planned UAE visit the following day.
