⚠️ Iran warns of strikes on U.S. bases if attacked: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi said Iran will exercise its right to self-defense if subjected to a U.S. strike. He said Iran’s missiles cannot reach U.S. territory but that Iran would strike American bases. Araqhchi said there is “no need for the American military buildup,” added that “this won’t intimidate us,” and said Iran is still working on its agreement proposal. He also said Iran will not accept zero-level uranium enrichment because enrichment is “our full right,” and said Iran is negotiating only on the nuclear issue.
🔸 Possible U.S.–Iran talks in Geneva: Axios reported the U.S. is prepared to hold another round of talks with Iran on Friday in Geneva if it receives a detailed Iranian proposal for a nuclear deal within the next 48 hours. Araqhchi said he will likely meet with Weitekoff in Geneva on Thursday. A diplomatic solution is still described as possible.
⚠️ Iranian readiness and reported deployments: Iran’s presidency said Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh presented a report to the president on the “enemy’s military deployment,” said movements in the region and beyond are being continuously monitored, and emphasized readiness of Iranian armed forces at all operational levels. The New York Times reported that in Iran the assumption is the U.S. will eventually attack and that Iran’s military is now on its highest alert. Iranian reports said the IRGC deployed short- and medium-range rocket and ballistic missile launchers along the Iran–Iraq border. They also reported the IRGC Aerospace Force entered Iraq and deployed ballistic missile batteries on Iraqi territory in preparation for potential launches toward U.S. military bases in the region.
💰 Financial Times reports Russian arms deals and aircraft deliveries: Financial Times reported Iran agreed a secret €500mn arms deal with Russia to acquire thousands of Verba shoulder-fired missiles as part of efforts to rebuild air defenses described as shattered during last year’s war with Israel. The report described Verba as a shoulder-fired, infrared-guided missile capable of targeting cruise missiles, low-flying aircraft and drones, and said deliveries are scheduled in three tranches from 2027 through 2029. Financial Times also reported Iran received up to six Russian Mi-28 attack helicopters in January 2026 and operated one in Tehran in February, and said Iran has sought to acquire two squadrons of Su-35 fighter jets but officials in Tehran have complained about delays. Financial Times reported Russia also agreed to sell Iran 500 “Mowgli-2” night-vision sights to track aircraft and other targets in darkness.
