The new initiative has been approved by the Supreme Leader and the National Security Council”.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi arrived in New York for the UN General Assembly’s 81st session. A senior Iranian official told Reuters: “The Iranian delegation in New York has full authority to revive diplomacy with the US. Details of a deal to end hostilities with the US could be discussed through intermediaries in New York. Tehran has offered to open the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days if Washington eases military pressure and lifts the sanctions. Our new proposal was delivered to the US through intermediaries on September 16th”.
Pakistani Interior Ministry sources told Al Jazeera: “Minister Mohsin Naqvi is heading to Tehran to discuss mediation efforts and end the stalemate”.
⚠️ Iran threatens regional retaliation as U.S. tanker presence grows: The Iranian General Staff (Khatam al‑Anbiya Central Headquarters) said: “The US is planning new actions against Iran with regional allies' green light, coordinated at a European summit. Any attack on Iran will trigger continuous, effective, and painful strikes on all US bases and interests in the region without any limitation. Regional states that side with US aggression will be considered partners in the attack and should not expect Iranian restraint”.
Satellite imagery shows at least 25 U.S. tanker aircraft at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest tanker presence there since the Iran war began in February. The tankers were withdrawn early in the conflict amid Iranian missile threats and began returning around June.

✈️ U.S. threatens airline sanctions as Iran disputes suspension reports: U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: “On September 23, all Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world. How do we do that? If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar system”.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization denied an AFP report that Iraq would suspend flights operated by U.S.-sanctioned Iranian airlines. Iran Air said: “We have not received any notification from Turkey, Azerbaijan, or Iraq regarding the suspension of our flights to Istanbul, Baku, and Najaf”.
Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet canceled all flights to Iran starting September 21, with no bookings available until at least March 2027. Iranian carrier Mahan Air also suspended flights to Istanbul and Ankara. Turkey had been one of the last major international air links available to Iranians.
