🇮🇱 IDF CHIEF OF STAFF: OCTOBER 7 LESSONS REQUIRE CONSTANT READINESS UPDATE: IDF Chief of Staff LTG Eyal Zamir visited a surprise General Staff exercise along the eastern border focused on defending against a large-scale terrorist infiltration and complex multi-scenario attack.
The exercise included reserve and standby forces that were called up overnight without prior notice. Participating commanders included Operations Directorate chief MG Itzik Cohen, Central Command chief MG Avi Bluth, Ground Forces commander MG Nadav Lotan, and division commanders from the 80th and 96th Divisions.
During the visit, Zamir reviewed troop preparedness, conducted a situational assessment, and drilled forces on responses to multiple operational scenarios. The exercise included reserve mobilization, aerial support, and deployment of special forces by air.
Zamir stated that one of the central lessons from the October 7 massacre is the need to maintain “a constant and high level of readiness” against surprise attacks “from the platoon level to the General Staff.”
He emphasized that rapid force deployment to attack scenes can contain incidents in their early stages and significantly reduce their scale.
The Chief of Staff said the exercise reflects lessons already learned and implemented since October 7, while stressing the importance of continued vigilance along all borders during the ongoing multi-front war.
Zamir added that the IDF must continue strengthening readiness, operational proficiency, and its ability to respond to complex surprise scenarios. He also praised reservists for repeated mobilization across multiple sectors, calling their contribution “tremendous” and essential to Israel’s security readiness.
