🕯️ FALLEN SOLDIER IDENTIFIED AFTER NEARLY 78 YEARS: The IDF has identified the burial place of Shlomo Haimson, an IDF fallen soldier whose grave had remained unknown for nearly 78 years. Investigators determined that he is buried in Grave 11, Row 2, in the Cyprus Detainees section of a cemetery in Haifa.
Haimson was born in Romania in 1930 and attempted to immigrate to Israel after World War II but was deported by the British to a detention camp in Cyprus. After learning in September 1948 that his daughter Miriam had been born in Israel, he attempted to escape the camp with eight others. He was shot and killed by camp guards on September 29-30, 1948, and buried in the Jewish cemetery in Margo, Cyprus.
In 1970, his remains were among 163 brought from Cyprus to Israel, around 120 of them unidentified, and reburied in Haifa. A special IDF investigation launched in 2023 examined international archives, testimony, historical photographs and archaeological surveys, ultimately identifying Haimson's grave.
His daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who live in Rio de Janeiro, were informed of the discovery. The family is expected to come to Israel for a military-state ceremony at which a memorial marker bearing Haimson's name will be added to his grave.
🔸 ISRAEL-LEBANON: Israel has offered Lebanon the release of Lebanese prisoners in exchange for the transfer of remains from Jewish cemeteries in Beirut and Sidon, according to Al Akhbar.
🚧 TE’ENIM CROSSING EXERCISE: The Ministry of Defense Crossings Authority will conduct a security exercise tonight, Wednesday, August 12, at the Te’enim Crossing from 9:30 PM until 4:00 AM Thursday. Route 557 will be intermittently closed to traffic. Sounds of gunfire and explosions will be heard during the exercise.
❗️ QUSRA: The Commander of IDF Central Command, the Commander of the Judea and Samaria Division, and the Commander of the Judea and Samaria Border Police District toured Qusra and nearby outposts this morning and spoke with the Palestinian family residing there, which informed them that the house has electricity and water infrastructure.
Near the house, in Area B where a closed military zone order was issued, a tent had been erected where Israeli civilians were staying. Border Police forces evacuated the tent and are working to evacuate the civilians who were staying there. The incident remains ongoing, and security forces are currently at the scene.
The commanders expressed grave concern over actions carried out by Israeli civilians against the Palestinian family and instructed that several measures be taken moving forward. It was further decided that disciplinary action would be taken against the security personnel involved, who were documented at the site several days ago. Security forces said they will continue to operate firmly and responsibly to improve the situation in the area, uphold law and order, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
📍 NORTHERN JUDEA AND SAMARIA: An operation began this morning to demolish 26 illegal Arab structures in the area of Ganim and Kadim ahead of renewed Israeli settlement there. The operation is being carried out by the Civil Administration under Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s direction.
