🇮🇱 DIPLOMATIC PRESSURE, ELECTION SECURITY AND DEFENSE INDUSTRY EXPANSION

🌍 Diplomatic initiatives are advancing alongside new European pressure on Israel:
Italy will host a Global Alliance for a Two-State Solution meeting in Rome on July 28–29, co-chaired with Saudi Arabia, with interfaith dialogue presented as a prerequisite for peace. Rome will also host another round of Lebanon negotiations on August 4.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the Strait of Hormuz must remain “free and open, navigable without any tolls,” and pledged an Italian role in restoring maritime access.
The Netherlands will prohibit the import, transit, purchase and sale of goods from Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria beginning September 22. The restrictions also apply to Dutch companies operating abroad and prohibit circumvention for three years.
The Dutch Council of State questioned whether the measure could be effectively enforced but did not formally object. The Netherlands reportedly received approximately one-third of agricultural exports from Israeli communities sent to the European Union and joins Belgium, Spain and Ireland in adopting national trade restrictions.
🗳️ Israeli leaders are emphasizing national unity and election security:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would seek a broad and stable national unity government. He said Israel had prevented internal collapse through collective strength and argued that unity and love of Israel would secure the country’s future despite continuing political disputes and security challenges.
Ahead of Tisha B’Av, the President said the Central Elections Committee and Shin Bet had briefed him on internal and external threats to election integrity. He pledged institutional support for election and law-enforcement bodies and warned political leaders that “Elections are not a civil war; we must not wait for a disaster.”
A Channel 13 poll showed Likud losing one seat and Bennett falling to 14 seats. The anti-Netanyahu bloc declined to 60 seats despite the Arab parties gaining two.
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem separately advised American citizens to exercise additional caution in Tel Aviv–Jaffa and Herzliya because of an “increase in violence by criminal organizations.” Israel’s cabinet is scheduled to convene Sunday evening against the background of the broader regional conflict.
🏭 Israel is expanding defense independence while deepening military cooperation with Greece:
Defense Ministry Director-General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram said Israel is preparing a strategic plan to expand domestic production of critical components, weapons and munitions, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
Funding will come partly from reforms intended to increase defense exports and partly from the IDF’s approved “350 Plan” force-building program. Manufacturers Association President Avraham Novogrotzki called for sufficient funding to sustain Israeli procurement and strengthen national security, industry, innovation and the economy.
Greece is expected to approve a €3 billion Israeli air-defense package as the centerpiece of its “Achilles’ Shield” network. The system would integrate Barak MX, David’s Sling and SPYDER with Greek F-35s, F-16 Vipers, Belharra-class frigates, Patriot batteries and other assets.
The unified network is intended to counter aircraft, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones and would be among Greece’s largest military modernization programs in decades.The POST labels and character counts are organizational markers only and should not be included in the published text.
