🌍 AOUN PREPARES LEBANESE FRAMEWORK FOR WASHINGTON: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is expected to meet President Trump at the White House during the first visit by a Lebanese head of state in nearly two decades, according to Reuters.
The talks will focus on securing an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and disarming Hezbollah. Aoun is expected to present a written proposal establishing exclusive Lebanese state control over weapons.
Beirut is urging Washington to press Israel to implement the June 26 U.S.-brokered agreement, which links a phased Israeli withdrawal to the complete disarmament of non-state armed groups.
Following Aoun’s meeting with Secretary Rubio, Lebanese reports said he would argue that the pilot process must follow Lebanon’s framework. This would begin with an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory rather than from areas already controlled by the Lebanese Army.
Aoun will reportedly reject any Syrian military or security role, insist that Hezbollah’s disarmament be handled solely through Lebanese state institutions and seek increased assistance for the Lebanese Armed Forces. He is also expected to call for the U.S.-Iran conflict to remain separate from Lebanese-Israeli negotiations to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into a wider regional war.
Lebanese sources accused Israel of delaying its withdrawal and attempting to undermine the framework. Aoun is reportedly relying on continued American pressure to advance the process and prevent renewed Israeli-Iranian fighting.
The initiative follows direct Lebanese-Israeli negotiations that generated fierce opposition from Hezbollah and its political allies. Aoun has accused Hezbollah of dragging Lebanon into a destructive war for Iranian interests, while maintaining that an Israeli withdrawal and Lebanese Army deployment along the southern border are prerequisites for long-term stability.
🏛️ POLITICAL AND SECURITY CONDITIONS REMAIN UNRESOLVED: Lebanon continues to demand a complete Israeli withdrawal. Disputes remain over the supervisory mechanism and the criteria for establishing a “weapons-free area.”
President Trump is reportedly urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to finalize the withdrawal following positive engagements with Aoun. During Aoun’s White House visit, Trump is expected to condition further Israeli withdrawals on ending Hezbollah’s nationwide military presence, strengthening Lebanese state control and cooperation with Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara.
Both governments reportedly recognize that a major acceleration or definitive peace breakthrough is unlikely before Israel’s elections scheduled for October.
Hezbollah denounced the negotiations as an American-imposed concession that deepens internal Lebanese divisions. It was also warned that entering the U.S.-Iran conflict could bring further destruction and displacement to Dahiyya, Baalbek, Hermel and southern Lebanon.
🚧 RIFLE GRENADES INTERCEPTED AT SYRIA-LEBANON BORDER: Syrian customs officials seized 226 RGC-type rifle grenades concealed inside hidden compartments of a vehicle attempting to enter Lebanon through the New Yabous border crossing.
The grenades were designed for use with grenade launchers. The shipment was likely intended for Hezbollah.
