🗳️ Election disqualification: The Central Elections Committee voted 31–4 to disqualify Sami Abu Shahadeh, with chairman Justice Solberg supporting the motion. Amit Segal reported that a chairman’s support was unprecedented, with previous chairmen either withholding a position or opposing disqualification. Solberg explicitly departed from the customary neutrality of presiding judges, saying he had found no satisfactory answer to his concerns and considered the case for disqualification clear.
Yair Golan supported the request initiated by Ben-Gvir. In a statement published by Segal, Golan argued that legitimizing armed struggle or attacks on civilians crosses a red line. He also called for Ben-Gvir’s disqualification under the same standard. Ben-Gvir said: “I hope the Supreme Court will rise above itself.”
🏛️ Security demands and territorial proposals: Golan threatened to petition the High Court of Justice against Zini unless he decides by Sunday to provide him with security. Golan also called for dismantling the farm project, arguing that its presence on state land does not make it legal.
In a separate report, Segal said Avigdor Lieberman called for bringing a foreign army into Judea and Samaria.
🛡️ Arrest and reported attack plans: Israeli forces carried out a rare overnight arrest of a senior Palestinian Authority security official in Judea and Samaria. Palestinian media identified the detainee as Majdi Amer, a colonel in the PA’s Preventive Security Service, and placed the arrest in Kafr Qallil, south of Shechem. Police described the suspect as a wanted Fatah operative suspected of advancing terrorist activities. According to police, undercover Border Police officers surrounded the building where he was staying, and he eventually surrendered.
A cell from the Shechem area reportedly planned to kidnap IDF soldiers and attack Ben-Gvir before being exposed. Whether that case is connected to the overnight arrest remains unclear.
✈️ Iranian aviation restrictions: An Iranian commercial aircraft landed in China despite U.S. threats of sanctions, AFP reported. Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar and Turkey were also reported to be introducing restrictions on flights operated by Iranian airlines.
